A double-aged, double-wood Añejo Tequila with a rich body and complex palate.

Destiladora San Nicolas is located in Los Altos — the Highlands of Jalisco Mexico. The deep red, volcanic soil and high altitude has long been considered the best climate for producing great Blue agave. They were founded in 1996, growing quickly by producing their own San Nicolas brand of Tequilas. In 2008 they were purchased by the Campari Group. Now, nearly all production goes into Cabo Wabo and their own El Espolòn line of Tequilas.

El Espolòn Tequila Añejo is double-aged. This 100% Weber Blue agave Spirit spends ten months in NEW American oak casks with a light char. Then it spends another two months in refill casks from Wild Turkey Bourbon that have a deep char. That sounds like a recipe for flavor to us. And it is. The complex palate dances with notes of wood, dried fruit, chocolate, and butterscotch. They say that this Tequila is for "discerning palates." OK… but we think that this sipper will make discerning palates out of all of us.

What does El Espolòn Tequila Añejo taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in El Espolòn Tequila Añejo and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

If the Tequila bottle label does not state that it’s manufactured from 100% Blue Agave, then, by default, that Tequila is a Mixto (manufactured from 51% Blue Agave).

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Golden Amber

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma wafts notes of roasted vegetables and toasted oak over apple chips and dried apricot.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The body is rich, full, and balanced with a mix of caramels and vanilla over sun-dried raisin, flan, cocoa, succulents, and wood spice.

The finish is long and satisfying.
Ratings & Reviews
I think this is a tequila for people that aren't really tequila drinkers. My wife and I are bourbon lovers, but this is a nice addition to the bar that we turn to for something different, and doesn't have the overpowering agave flavor of most tequilas. It's sweet with nice vanilla flavors, and tastes great on the rocks or with a splash of Grand Marnier.
Really smooth and easy to drink.
Buttery and sweet with hints of toasted oak. Good for sipping straight.
The aging in bourbon barrels adds a nice sweetness. Very enjoyable.
