A double-aged, double-wood Añejo Tequila with a rich body and complex palate.
Destiladora San Nicolas is located in Los Altos — the Highlands of Jalisco Mexico. The deep red, volcanic soil and high altitude has long been considered the best climate for producing great Blue agave. They were founded in 1996, growing quickly by producing their own San Nicolas brand of Tequilas. In 2008 they were purchased by the Campari Group. Now, nearly all production goes into Cabo Wabo and their own El Espolòn line of Tequilas.
El Espolòn Tequila Añejo is double-aged. This 100% Weber Blue agave Spirit spends ten months in NEW American oak casks with a light char. Then it spends another two months in refill casks from Wild Turkey Bourbon that have a deep char. That sounds like a recipe for flavor to us. And it is. The complex palate dances with notes of wood, dried fruit, chocolate, and butterscotch. They say that this Tequila is for "discerning palates." OK… but we think that this sipper will make discerning palates out of all of us.
