The French connection.

The story goes back to 1921, when Frances Le Lay, the great-grandmother of the family started to distill cider and began the family’s tradition that has remained so until this day. In 1986 Guy Le Lay wanted to do something different and started distilling Whisky out of buckwheat; yes buckwheat.
Originating from Bretagne in France they started to make Whisky out of buckwheat, which is perhaps a tad unorthodox for typical Whisky aficionados. But this water of life from Bretagne is a drop that you must try, even to just expand your flavour horizon.

Eddu is Breton for buckwheat. Eddu Silver Pur Blé Noir Whisky is double-distilled and matured in the mild climate of Bretagne in fine French oak barrels that were used to mature Cognac. They like to say that the creation of the Whisky with different batches is just like the creation of a perfume.  All that tradition and innovation gives this superb French Whisky the right note to be different, and good at it.

Nice, but not at all smooth. I first drank it during the summer on the Brittany coast. The perfect finish for a day hiking while the chicken was on the BBQ.
