Echo Spring Kentucky Bourbon has been around in one form or another since 1881, when it was introduced by the old Murphy-Barber Distillery. Looking at the packaging, it looks like nothing has changed in bottling or labeling since the 1950s.
But the spirit inside has changed quite a bit. These days the product is made by the Heaven Hill Distillery. As late as the 1970s it was proudly marked as “aged 7 years.” You will notice that the age statement has been removed as they have repositioned the brand into the mid-market space.
Best guess is that today’s Echo Spring is three to four years old and the flavor profile reflects that with both spice and a bit of vanilla. Strength is a relatively standard 40% ABV and it is considered a regional specialty brand, catering to local markets.
