All hail to the Monarch.

It all started in 1846 when John Dewar Sr. laid the foundations for this famous brand. While he was known as a pretty good Whisky blender, the actual breakthrough happened after the company passed on to his sons. Not to exaggerate, but they truly turned out to be a duo of impressively fruitful apples that took the legacy of their father’s company to the very top of the ladder. How? With propelling the brand into the global market, a brilliant marketing strategy, a meticulous attention to detail, and by just casually pioneering the concept of “marrying” — assembling a blend and then returning it to the cask to homogenize together.

Today the brand lies in the hands of Bacardi, but their logo still remains a Celtic truth knot, made out of three D’s that symbolize the legacy of John Dewar and his two sons — John Alexander Dewar and Tommy Dewar.

Their 15-Year-Old blended Scotch is the first one that was created by the Master Blender Stephanie Macleod. It’s a wonderfully balanced expression that’s matured in Sherry and Bourbon casks before getting blended together— and you how it goes... first comes the blend, then comes marriage in selected oak casks, then comes an exceptionally smooth Whisky. And, fitting to its regal name, this Monarch surrounded itself with some of that bling-bling as well, winning a gold medal for two consecutive years at the International Spirits Challenge for the best Blended Scotch between 12 and 20 years old.

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Dewar's 15 Year Old and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Is Scotch always Scottish? What do you think? Yes. The answer is yes.
Beer and malt Whisky seem to have quite a bit in common. Both drinks begin with malted barley, which deliver the enzymes and sugars needed for fermentation when steeped in hot water. The two go their separate ways at the wash stage, where they're fermented or aged to become the adult beverages you know and love.
Blended Whiskies are the result of years of craftsmanship and dedication. A master blender does not simply wake up one day with a profound ability to create a cohesive and enjoyable liquid. From nosing the liquid to working out quantities of each different grain and malt to go into the blend, a master blender can take years, if not decades, to train.
Can Scotch go bad? Technically, an unopened bottle of Scotch can last forever. Air is the only true evil to Whisky; once the liquid is oxidized it is no longer immortal. After opening, as long as you store your Whisky in a cool, dry place, it will last another 5 years.
Whisky distilling goes way back to 1494 when the first recorded batch was made by a posse of monks who acquired about 60 gallons of barley and decided to turn it into "aqua vitae". They created the first 1,500 bottles of Scotch in History.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most Single Malts are matured longer, though).
