A Bourbon-Coffee Whiskey sweetened with pure agave nectar.

Devil’s River Whiskey launched their first product — a 90-proof Bourbon — in 2017 using sourced Spirits. President and co-founder Mike Cameron has been driving this upstart Texas-based Spirits company toward nationwide distribution and the opening of their own San Antonio distillery in Q4 of 2019. And they have managed to win a few awards along the way. If the Spirits industry had a "Who to Watch" list, these guys would be on it.

Devils River Coffee Bourbon starts with their core Texas Bourbon. So, it shares the mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% barley. The Spirit is aged in new oak, but then things get different. They procure fresh, Vienna-roasted coffee beans that have been sustainably harvested in Columbia, Brazil, and Honduras. They let these beans steep in the Bourbon for twenty-four hours. Then they sweeten the Spirit with pure agave nectar. The result is a complex, exotic, and sweet dram that adds a new dimension to cocktails. And it took home a Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition to boot.

Smartass Corner:
Devil’s River Whiskey takes its name from a limestone spring-fed river system that empties into a reservoir on the Rio Grande about 200 miles west of San Antonio where the distillery gets its water.

Bourbons have very prominent notes of vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Color
Ruddy Bronze

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is all about the coffee beans with a pronounced note of sweetened espresso, flan, and a hint of maple.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavor profile is like a coffee-flavored toffee balanced against rye spice.

The finish is long, sweet, and satisfying.
Ratings & Reviews
If you are thinking Bourbon then think again. This is closer to an expresso. If that is what you are looking for then this bottle may be what you want. It is quite tasty. It makes for a fine after dinner drink. And the price is so reasonable for a unique experience. At this price I say it is well worth giving it a try. If you want a bourbon with a touch of coffee that is not what this is.
This one surprised me. It's got this rich roasted coffee smell and taste with a kick but it's a good kick
A sweet sip of bourbon with hearty coffee flavor. Smooth and was suggested would go nicely over vanilla ice cream!
Interesting flavor....kinda overwhelms the bourbon but it sure goes down easy. Great winter pick-me-up.
Great flavored bourbon if you're a coffee fan like me. Smooth to the point of soothing.
Was concerned with the aroma that it was going to be very bitter, like a coffee bean. The first bite was, but then it smoothed out and finished with a touch of sweetness. Not much bourbon flavor coming through as it is overpowered by the coffee. Tried straight but may try it with a splash of honey bourbon and see what happens.
