Top reviews for Deerhammer American Single Malt Whiskey:

― On the nose, this was sweet, woody, hint of fresh cracked walnuts. On the palate, I found notes of vanilla, oak, black licorice (but not in a bad way - that lowlands Scotch note like in a Maccallen 12 double oak), and a subtle sweetness. On the finish, hint of chocolate covered coffee beans. Medium finish. I enjoyed this from the nose to finish. I completely disagree with a "raw alcohol favor" and "acetone aftertaste." I prefer bourbon, but this will have a spot in my collection. I wish it were still available. This was probably one of my best quarterly bottle selections (this is the George Remus Bourbon). There are other Deerhammer bottles on their website, and I look forward to trying them. Hopefully Flaviar can get them in their network! Cheers y'all!

― In my opinion the smell brought me back to my childhood days when my grandpa (now deceased) was cracking walnuts on Christmas Day. That smell is what I detected on the nose. Sweet, walnut, wood. Taste and finish were enjoyable. I tasted a slight black licorice (maybe anise), vanilla and oak for sure. It was not overly sweet, but a nice dark chocolate finish (or the aftertaste of chocolate covered espresso beans). This is not my go to style of whiskey. I prefer bourbon. BUT, This is definitely something I want to keep handy. So not only did it have a cool name and story, but it tasted great!

― Sweet and fruity with enough complexity to make you want to come back for more, without smashing you over the head with it. Buena Vista also happens to be one of my favorite stopovers on my way to ski-parts-west, so I will be sure to add this distillery to my visit list.
