The Wild Trio: An Exclusive DBM Gift Bundle

Deer, Bear & Moose is Flaviar’s ode to Whisky and an embodiment of the desire to share our passion for flavor exploration with you, Flaviaristas. Twenty-seven editions ago, we started the trip across Scotland at Tobermory and have treated the Whisky connoisseurs in the Club to extraordinary vintages and rarities.

This gift bundle of three DBM offerings—DBM #26, DBM #27 Movember Edition, and a brand new, bundle-exclusive DBM #28 Blended Scotch—is an insanely rare (only 100 bundles available) and collectible present that will leave any true Scotch scholar open-mouthed.

Deer, Bear & Moose No. 26 comes from a single Sherry butt cask that held a Glenrothes juice for fourteen years, turning it into a warm, sophisticated sip. DBM27 is another 14YO Speysider—a delightful Aberlour Single Malt from two ex-Bourobn hogsheads that made a grown-up Whisky expert exclaim giddily that it’s one of the perfect finishes he’s ever tried. Then, there’s the twenty-eighth edition of DBM, bottled exclusively for this gift: a splendid 23-year-old blend of Speyside, Highland, and Lowland Whiskies. We’re not supposed to disclose the recipe, but a portion of the concoction comes from The Macallan and Glengoyne. Our curators would tell us more, but they were left speechless.

We literally cannot imagine a better gift for Whisky lovers. (Except even more DBM.)

Single malt stands for around 10% of the Scotch market. This is a malt containing only one grain, legally required to be barley in Scotland, and made at a single distillery.

A blended Scotch is a combination of different malts from different distilleries. It is typically made from grain Whisky but does include malt Whisky to give it a more complex body.
Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
Can Scotch go bad? Technically, an unopened bottle of Scotch can last forever. Air is the only true evil to Whisky; once the liquid is oxidized it is no longer immortal. After opening, as long as you store your Whisky in a cool, dry place, it will last another 5 years.
Categories of Scotch Whisky: Single malt, Blended malt (formerly called Vatted malt), blended, single grain and blended grain Scotch.
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
First-class Whiskies are taxed not only by the state but also by the angels. This refers to the 4% of Whisky that evaporates from the barrels every year, a phenomenon known as the angel’s share.
