Good things can come out of Frenchman abandoning his Cognac.
Roger Domoiseau bought the Bellevue Distillery on the French West Indian island of Guadeloupe in 1942. The facility was founded by the Rimbaud family nearly two hundred years before that — so there is tradition dripping off the walls of the place. All of their Rums are made from 100% “first press,” estate-grown sugar cane. They have a commanding market share on Guadeloupe and export to France and forty other countries.
Damoiseau XO Rhum Agricole is the top-of-the-line Rum flowing from the stills. The spirit is aged exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks for a minimum of six full years — on site, in the tropics. As you may remember, the consistent warm and humid climate ages spirits faster, so if you close your eyes you might guess that you have a ten-yea-old dram of something sweet in your hands. In fact, the floral, almost Wine-like notes might even make you think that it’s a Cognac… it’s that good. And all that flavor in a Rum translates into a great value too.
Smartass Corner:
In the world of Rum, the words “agricole” or “Rhum agricole” refers to the French style of Caribbean Rum-making using fresh sugar cane juice as opposed to granulated sugars or molasses as the base.
