Brandy, the American way.

Up in the northern part of Louisville, KY, right next to the Ohio River and a shout away from Indiana, there's a picturesque neighborhood called Butchertown. It used to be home to butchers, brawlers, and brewers, today it houses artists, artisans, and distillers. Butchertown was the birthplace of Copper & Kings in 2014, when Joe and Lesley Heron took the idea of Brandy, disassembled it and put together something truly American. Everything is pure, authentic and natural, but most importantly, Brandy is influenced by American Whiskey and music. Their secret is slow distillation at low temperatures, exclusively in copper pot-stills. (Okay, maybe it’s not a secret anymore.) Their lineup includes American brandy, Absinthe, and Dry Gin, but you’re at the wrong place if you expect the usual.

Copper & Kings “A Song for You” is a limited-release American Brandy that celebrates the fifth anniversary of the brand. The Spirits in the blend are between 8 and 18 years old and they come from seven different US states. Joe says it’s a celebration of survival and grit necessary to start an endeavor like this. It’s a gift to everyone who believed them - it’s a song for us. Master Distiller Brandon O’Daniel characterizes the style as confident, bold and rich. The palate delivers both a fruity character and an incredibly smooth finish akin to Whiskey. It’s not Cognac, but it’s not even trying to be. C&K is something else: it’s a Spirit of the New World, Brandy rediscovered.

Brandies can help digestion, so they are perfect after meals. They were and are still considered medicine. Basically, any fruit that can be fermented can be distilled and turned into Brandy.
Brandy was invented in the 16th century by a sneaky Dutch merchant who learned how to remove water from Wine and save cargo space. He then added water again and called it “Bradwijn”, which means “burned wine”.
At the Copper & Kings they paint their barrelheads orange.

They currently age their Absinthe in juniper barrels from Serbia.
Nevertheless, the best Brandies are required to preserve the concentrated flavor of the used fruit.
