An unusual Irishman.

The Cooley Distillery was established in 1987 by John Teeling and was then the first new distillery set up in Ireland in over 100 years. The distillery enjoys a great location for Whiskey production due to its access to clean pure water from the Slieve na gCloc river. They use column and pot stills, allowing them to produce both malt and grain Whiskey.

Connemara Peated Cask Strength is the only Irish Whiskey to be produced from its natural strength – 57.90% ABV. Natural and undiluted, the Cask Strength is not chill filtered or coloured in any way. It is double distilled – not three times like most Irish Whiskey.

What does Connemara Peated Cask Strength taste like?

The Flavour Spiral™ shows the most common flavours that you'll taste in Connemara Peated Cask Strength and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavour Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Corner
There are many Irish Whiskey varieties: grain Whiskey, malted barley pot-still-distilled, and ‘pure pot-still’ or ‘single pot still’ as it is now officially known. Then there is Poitin, one of the first spirits ever made.

Tasting Notes

Appearance / Colour
Lightly golden, pale yellow.

Smell / Nose / Aroma
Smoky, peaty balanced by heathery notes.

Flavour / Taste / Palate
Full bodied, with a peat surge. Delicious sweet barley flavours, underlying fruitiness, also peppery.

Finish
Very long. Powerful and hot, peat clinging to every crevice in the mouth, whilst still remaining sweet. Slight notes of honey and vanilla.

Comment
Enjoy neat or with a little water to release the aromas. Works great with Cashel Blue Cheese.
