Awe-inspiring piece of Whisky art
Compass Box, the Scottish artisanal Whisky maker has become a shorthand for adventure and mouth-watering stunts. They create custom barrels from premium oak, pick the best Whiskies their specially trained goats can find, and concoct mind-boggling blends. We’re joking about the goats, obviously. Founded in 2000 by John Glaser, Johnnie Walker’s former Mad Man, the company constantly pushes the envelope, so to speak.
For this lavish and unique expression, Compass Box took inspiration from the Renaissance painting that depicts Tobias, a dude from the Bible who met a literal angel and didn't even realize. On one hand, both the painting and the Whisky showcase the talents of their creators; on the other, the unlikely duo represents the relationship between two Whiskies in the blend: the smoky Caol Ila and the fruity and complex Clynelish. They both spent time in refill Bourbon hogsheads, but their characters couldn't be more different. Yet, when married in a heavenly partnership, they bring harmony to the palate and nose, and inspiration to the mind. It's a free country, but if we may recommend: enjoy this masterpiece neat and slow. It's a pure Compass Box artistry.
