Tasting Notes
Appearance / Colour
Pale straw.

Smell / Nose / Aroma
Medium vegetal peatiness, slight bacon aroma with dry hay and a hint of banana and cardamom. Added water brings out the fruitier elements.

Flavour / Taste / Palate
Loads of peat smoke, heat and toasted sesame oil. A slight fruity malt character underneath the smoke.

Finish
Long bittersweet finish, ash and liquid smoke feel as your mouth dries - whilst retaining pears and some iodine.

Comment
Add a dash of water. Excellent with blue cheese.

Nice kind of monster.

In 2000 John Glaser started the Compass Box Whisky Company, a firm dedicated to blending boutique Scotch Whiskies.  Their commitment is to make Scotch Whisky more approachable and relevant to more people.

The Peat Monster combines smoky malt Whiskies from Islay with medium-peated Highland Whiskies. It is a secret which Whiskies the Peated Monster is a blend of though - we can only guess, and guess you shall - with your taste buds. The Peat Monster is matured in first refill casks from the Caol Ila and Ardmore distilleries. Peat Monster's PPM Value (Phenol Parts per Million) is approximately 30, which isn’t such a monstrosity as the name might suggest.

Boyd
Boyd,
Peat was more subdued that I expected with the name

B,
Decent, but not as strong as you would expect with Monster in the name. If you like the ferocious end of the Islays, Ardbeg or Laphroaig might be more to your fancy.
