In 1830, a baby called Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. was born and he became the father of modern Whiskey (when he grew up, naturally). Raised by the twelfth US President... We thought that was worth mentioning. He made top-notch Whiskeys and made sure the Bottled-in-Bond law was passed. So it's no wonder Buffalo Trace Distillery decided to name their fantastic limited expression after the dude.
Colonel E.H. Taylor Straight Rye Whiskey is made from a mash of rye and malted barley, bottled in bond (a product of a single distiller) at 100 proof. Not only is this rare treasure a homage to booze history, it's really actually good! Dark spices, caramel undertones, cinnamon and vanilla hiding in the back... Look, you don't have to listen to us; Jim Murray himself gave this bottle an almost perfect score of 97 points and said it shouldn't be left on a shelf.
What does Colonel E.H. Taylor Straight Rye taste like?
The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Colonel E.H. Taylor Straight Rye and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.
We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Susan,
It is SOOO smooth. Yes, I taste the caramel, spice and a fruitiness. I also tasted a nuttiness in the after taste and some woodiness. This is a superb rye whiskey! Will be my go to whiskey for those "special" friends and family Highly, Highly Recommend!
Michael,
Excellent
Adam,
Not a huge rye fan and actually love this one! Extremely smooth for a 100proof
Joseph,
The best rye. Very smooth/great taste
Ray,
Citrus and a slight sweet flavor upfront give way to spice and wood on the backend. The spice leaves a little tingle in the lips while the citrus hangs on the tongue.
Paige,
The nose leads with mild ethanol but is quickly halted by vanilla wafers, butterscotch and stone dried fruits. Final notes of baking spices settle in as the aroma of blackberry scones dissipate.
An immediate explosion of delicate rye spice and apricots take control of the palate while toasted oak and burnt sugars settle on the mid palate. Sweet cake batter drizzled over dehydrated prunes fade on the backend before tapering into oak heavy, spicy and warming finish. A short burst of brown sugar tossed cherries and burnt orange peel arrive then quickly dissolve. The finish is long and intricate accompanied by a full mouthful. The palate is a little thinner than I hoped for but offers a flavorful complexity overall.
eliot,
always on my shelf. i drink it more than i should
Scott,
Extremely smooth with vanilla start and caramel and cinnamon finish.
Kent,
Just love this beginning to end! Rich up front, some burn down the middle, and a dynamic finish. Also makes a perfect old fashioned.

A truly classic bourbon, wasn’t wowed but very impressed when I finally added this to the collection.
Steve,
This is my favorite rye right now.
Vince,
This is easily one of my favorite bourbons of all time. It is perfect, neat or wet. The Rye is not overpronounced and the sweet is subtle. It goes down easily and can be complex at the end. Look for honey and leather with a hint of pepper.
Ro,
Potentially the best rye based on price. Really great buy
Michael,
The first Bottled in Bond rye I had ever purchased, worth the money.

guest,
A very good Rye, has a briny element to it. Nice and light but has layers. The price point might be a little high but the bottle looks nice.
