Centenario International started as a Costa Rican Rum distiller more than 40 years ago. This Central American powerhouse has been making quality since day one and that has fueled huge growth. Today — as a division of the mega-corp Pernod Ricard — they produce a ton of jungle juice aka Rum under the Centenario brand along with Absolute Nikolai Vodkas, Chivas Regal Whisky, Martel Cognac, Gran Patron Tequila Burnett’s Gin, Hypnotiq Liqueur, and a bunch of other things. Basically, they are one of the most prolific divisions and stock a good portion of the worlds liquor shelves worldwide. But it all started with premium Rum.
We’ve said it before and we will say it again… when premium Rum is aged in the tropics for a LONG time, it turns red. Well, not "red" as in "garish Vegas neon red." More like, "garnet gemstones have been somehow magically dissolved into the spirit at sunset" kind of red. Centenario 30 Year Old Edicion Limitada is just that kind of red. Perfecto.
And something else about really old Rum… it gets oh-so-smooth. The transformation of Rum is far more dramatic than most other spirits. Fresh "white" Rum is unaged and can drink like diluted Riccola throat lozenges. But by the time the best Rums get to 30 long years resting in oak at the high humidities of the tropics, what comes out of the cask is altogether different. Seriously… give this one a try.
What does Ron Centenario 30 Year Old Edicion Limitada taste like?
The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Ron Centenario 30 Year Old Edicion Limitada and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.
We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

A little bit of etymology; nobody really knows where the word Rum comes from. The most popular suggestions are Rum (the Romani word for 'potent'), Rumbullion (an uproar), Saccharum (sugar in Latin), and Rummer (a Dutch drinking glass).
Excellent rum. Love the caramel and vanilla flavors. Very smooth drink
Victor,
Exceptionally smooth and full of flavor
Gerald,
It's the real deal, smooth and silky. I could drink this stuff everyday, but it's for special occasions (like a day ending in "y"). Get some and try it; I triple dog dare you! haha
james,
Lovely rum but not sure I’d pay the money for a whole bottle
Brenda,
Smooth and delicious. Even my partner, who doesn't normally like aged rum, drank it.
Alistair,
Had this as a taster - if I could afford the price tag up front it would already be on it's way to me. Will look to putting some aside for a Christmas present to myself.
Victor,
The flavor and silky smoothness of the rhe 30 year old sets the standards all others should be measured by.
Matthew,
Very smooth, very pleasant. Almost tastes like it was blended with a pecan whiskey. A bit of oak, presumably from the barrel, with caramel and candied peanuts. Very good sipper for fans of bourbon.
Rolf,
Probably the best there is.
David,
Very smooth good rum
Paul,
Smooth rum which was extremely good
Grega,
OMFG.
I tasted this in The rum galaxy sample. It is by far the best of the three. After the first sip you just have to smile. I'm saving for the bottle now.
Callum,
Beautifully smooth and full flavoured. Reminiscent of a good cognac: in a good way :-)
Joshua,
too sweet for a 30 year old rum. You could just add a tablespoon of sugar to your glass and get this flavor from most $30-50 rums. I am glad I got this thru the sample packs and didn't spend the money on it. This is the sweetest rum i have ever had.
Gregory,
Smooth! Light and sweet
Gavin,
Spicy and warm, caramel, rich.
Ashley,
Hot and rich, like a sweet bourbon. Spicy, roasty. Nutmeg and vanilla
Elvin,
Best rum I ever tasted for under 500 bucks a fifth
Christopher,
Quite smooth, nice caramel taste with a nutty aftertone
Mirosław,
Clearly one of my favourite rums. Slightly too sweet hence give it "only" 9. Tasty and well balanced.
Zach,
Complex and good but the vanilla was so sweet and strong that it tasted more like a vanilla liqueur.
Joe,
Just learning more about rum, but you don't need to know much about different rums to know this is exceptional. Amazingly smooth and complex. I need to add this to my bar.
Antti,
It is a classic aged rum that has an aromatic birth; while an oaky life leads to a complex & smooth death with notes of rose, vanilla & brown sugar.
David,
One of the best rums I’ve ever tasted. Fruity, caramely, with enough oak spice to add texture and a full mouthfeel. Orange zest followed by sweet nuttiness. Complex and interesting sipper.
Ott,
Was expecting more caramel but still...sooo smooth.
Uriah,
Best rum I’ve ever tasted!!!! Looking forward to getting more!
Matt,
Wood and burnt caramel nose. Caramel and brown sugar notes with ripe fruit.
Israel,
Extremely smooth and enjoyable!
Sean,
All I can really say about this is simply that I can see why this is a $150 bottle. Had this in the Rum Galaxy sampler. Just beautiful. As Corey said, if only life were as smooth as this rum.
Kurt,
I've never tried a 30 year old rum and this was wonderful. It's a completely different class from the Pilar I usually drink.
Andrew,
VERY smooth and good flavor. Wish it had more flavor for the price though. Really enjoyed it.
Corey,
Very Smooth and amazing, just the way it needs to be. Life needs to be this smooth.
Antonio,
Smooth
Marguerite,
Fantastic: this is a Caramel, oak, and spice explosion.
Mary,
I absolutely loved it! Not too sweet as some dark rums can be. Not sure I want to spend that much on it, but it definitely compares to rums in that price range.
Angela,
Sweet and a little oaky for me
James,
Mellow. Smooth. Sweet. Nothing complicated about it, but nothing wrong either.
Not worth the price
Noel,
So good
AJ,
By far one of the best Rums I have tasted... Must have!
Amarjot,
Beautifully smooth. Great tones
Christopher,
Nose: Oak. Burnt caramel. Candied cherries. Toffee notes. Maybe a touch of coffee.
Palate: There’s a sweetness that explodes on the palate. Caramel. Something almost like a fortified wine. Vanilla. Heavy vanilla, likely from the oak. Brandied cherries. That’s what it is.
Finish: Lingering tannins from the oak. Burnt coffee and chocolate on the back of my tongue.
A really lovely rum.
Patrick,
Sweet and a little oaky for me
Jon,
Notes were on point. Amazing rum.
John,
This is one of the smoothest rums I have ever had. As an almost exclusive rum drinker, this is a must try rum. The flavor is sweet and goes down smooth with a lingering finish that just makes you want more.
Matt,
Not what the flavor notes said. Not very good at all. It's more like a whiskey than rum in a way.
Anthony,
It was incredible. Smooth and nutty flavors exceptional paired with such a smooth taste. Highly recommended.
Michael,
Very lovely. Soooo smooth. This grows and grows on me.
Peter,
Absolutely beautiful
James,
The rich, golden sugar cane flavour, and smooth finish make this a wonderful example of what a rum should be
C,
Very smooth with a toffee aftertaste.
Chris,
Very smooth
Deborah,
One of my favorite runs, ever. Complex but goes down so smoothly. Hint of caramel
William,
OUTSTANDING. The best I have ever had. Smooth, buttery, slightly sweet. Hint of honey Using ice should get you barred from ever tasting this rum. Worth every penny. Very hard to find !!!
Raoul,
A very good rum, think heavy tears and an insisting caramel praline taste infused with flowers. Impressive, but not as good as the ron millonario sistema solera 15 riserva
Byron,
Sophisticated and layered. We found it the flavor spiral to be very accurate with a sweet start, a distinct rose note in the middle and a darker oaky finish.
Kyle,
Delicious sweet flavor that packed a punch.
Kenneth,
Smooth, caramel. Nuttiness. Delicious
Wayne,
This is a very good rum. Smooth, sweet and something that you could spend a nice afternoon with. My lowish rating is only because I would expect more of a 30-year-old rum. Its good, very good, don't get me wrong - just not great.
Craig,
Fantastic! The smooth depth of this rum seems to envelop you it’s rich and heavy flavors
Daniel,
I'm not a rum drinker. But if I could afford it, I'd drink this all the time. Incredibly smooth with a sweetness that hits your tongue like silk and goes down like water.
Robert,
This rum is pretty darn smooth and most of the flavors work well for me, but it has some leathery tannins that don't agree with me. I might try it again on BBQ smoking day. Cigar smokers would probably love this rum.
Andrew,
Okay. This just became my favorite rum. And I don't particularly rum, but I could drink this all the time—if my pocketbook allowed.
James,
Smooth and silky. Lays out on the tongue like velvet.
Scott,
Extraordinary offering. My personal preference is for the more rare 25 year, but that's just being greedy.
Jose,
Smooth and enjoyable, not my favorite but near the top.
Allen,
Sweet and smooth
Magnus,
Super smooth with a clear note of caramel. Perhaps even a bit too smooth which makes it lose a bit of sting.
Thomas,
Sweet and smooth. Very nice.
Timothy,
Take my money....Supreme taste. No room for ice.
Joseph,
Sweet and smooth
Jason,
Delicious sweet cream with a bit of tobacco, pineapple, and coconut
John,
Perfecto!
Christian,
soft, very similar to a cognac, very, very good
Richard,
This is great stuff. A long, thick finish. Chocolate and apples.
