Good news: You've got impeccable taste in liquor. The not-as-good news? It means it's currently out of stock. Add this bad boy to your wish list and we'll let you know if it comes our way.
Flor de Caña Centenario 12 is a Rum worth bragging about.
Back in 1890, Francisco Alfredo Pellas built a sugarcane plantation and a Rum distillery on the side of an active volcano. People ridiculed him until the virgin batch of rich volcanic soil enhanced Rum reached their lips. Then it was "Don" Francisco's turn to laugh.
125 years later, Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua and the San Antonio Sugar Mill produce the highest quality Central American Rums on the flanks of the San Cristobal volcano in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua. The company is led by the 5th generation of the Pellas family and their brand—Flor de Caña (meaning “flower of the cane”)—has grown to become one of the most recognized Rums in the world. The Flor de Caña line includes seven Rums in their “slow-aged” collection and three ultra-premium “Centenario” Rums
Flor de Caña Centenario 12 lives up to the f(l)ame. This Rum is a case study in pure simplicity. Sugar cane, grown in some of the finest volcanic soil on the planet, is extracted of its precious natural syrup, which is fermented with local yeasts and then distilled. Finally, it is placed in charred oak barrels—on site—for as long as 25 years.
Like the entire line of Centenarios, this is a true “estate” spirit—every aspect of production takes place in the shadow of the San Cristobal volcano rising like Olympus above the sugarcane fields. Folks, if you are new to Rum, this spirit has everything it needs to win your heart. You might be the one bragging about the Rum to your friend, but it will be the Rum that truly owns you... and you'll be okay with that.

A little bit of etymology; nobody really knows where the word Rum comes from. Most popular suggestions are: Rum (the Romani word for potent), Rumbullion (an uproar), Saccharum (sugar in Latin), Rummer (a Dutch drinking glass).
