A noble Spirit from the famed Brandy de Jerez area.

The history of the Sanchez Romate bodega goes all the way back to 1781 when it was founded by Juan Sánchez Latorre in the Spanish city of Cádiz. Remarkably, the entire operation is still in family hands. The bodega supports several brands, including their flagship Cardenal Mendoza line of solera-aged Brandy and six other exclusive Spirits.

In 1887, they started to make a unique Brandy that was just for the family’s consumption. The word got out soon, though, and they decided to start selling it under the name Cardenal Mendoza. This one-of-a-kind Brandy was aged in Sherry casks for at least 15 years on average, which is way more than the legal minimum. Rich and complex, it’s aged Solera Gran Reserva style. If you’re looking for a noble Spirit that’s made with time-honored methods, this is your dram.

Brandy was invented in the 16th century by a sneaky Dutch merchant who learned how to remove water from Wine and save cargo space. He then added water again and called it “Bradwijn”, which means “burned wine”.
Brandies can help digestion, so they are perfect after meals. They were and are still considered medicine. Basically, any fruit that can be fermented can be distilled and turned into Brandy.
Nevertheless, the best Brandies are required to preserve the concentrated flavor of the used fruit.
