There has been Whiskey made on the site of the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, for more than two hundred years. The first distillery operation that can be continuously traced to Buffalo Trace was started in 1812 by Harrison Blanton (yes, that Blanton). He sold the operation in 1870 and it was renamed the Old Fire Copper (O. F. C.) Distillery. It has been bought and sold many times over the intervening decades, but Sazerac has owned the property since 1992. They produce a wide range of Bourbons and spirits — including their signature Bourbon.
Not only is the Buffalo Trace signature Bourbon beloved by its fans, it’s also really good and not overly-priced. In fact, it has become the flagship of the Sazerac Bourbon line-up. They keep the mash bill tight — Corn, Rye, and malted Barley with no Wheat filler. It is also aged at least 8 years and served up at 45% ABV. All that means rich, classic Bourbon flavor in every sip. For many Bourbon fans, Buffalo Trace is their “go-to” daily drinker and we think it would be hard to make a better choice.
Smartass Corner: Buffalo Trace has a capacity of about 2.7 million gallons per year — enough to fill about 51,000 barrels. This is especially impressive since everything passes through a single, 60,000 gallon beer still (wash type).
Goes with the rest of the distillery. Good smooth taste. Not harsh. Good in cocktail or straight
Nice and basic bourbon. Only 40% alcohol leaves the taste just a vit too thin
Great value for it’s price
I enjoy this as a daily pour when I don’t want a whiskey that fights back. Brown sugar nose, minty taste, and sweet oaky after taste.
Smooth uniform flavor. Low alcohol fume. Great neat or in mixed drinks.
A great every day bourbon!
Great every day boubon
This is far better than I expected.
My favorite bourbon. Want it on the rocks?... Phenomenal. Want it neat?... Amazing. Want to mix it?... Tremendous. This is my favorite Bourbon with Angels Envy and Eagle Rare being a close second and third. HIGHLY recommended...
Spicy rye flavor with oaky, vanilla base
All day, every day with this one. Great bourbon for the price. Well balanced all the way around.
Staple go to in my bar. Smooth on the rocks or with a splash of cola.
Good, solid bourbon. Great in an old fashioned or neat
My fav 100%!
Classic bourbon, you get exactly what you expect! For under $30 you really cannot go wrong. Excellent choice for old fashioneds or on the rocks or near. Really solid choice and you won’t ever be disappointed!
Great daily drinker. Nothing too complex. Just good ole' bourbon
Quite nice, balanced bourbon. Awesome price to value
Best sub $30 bourbon
This my go to bourbon nice Carmel and vanilla with a hint of oak, nice finish
A quintessential bourbon. Flavors right down the middle of bourbon fairway. Sweet, cherry, vanilla ... Pleasant and nonoffensive. A pleaser for the masses.
Price to quality ratio is outstanding, and a flavor profile very suitable to my palette. Love it!
Very good for the price. Not huge on Bourbon but I definitely enjoyed it.
Good go to cheap bourbon
Sweet on the tongue, smooth nose
Solid American style bourbon
Great bourbon, excellent for an old fashioned
Sweet and Spicy!!!
Nice vanilla tasting whiskey. Was my first bourbon in 20 years and an okay sample of what I remembered of bourbons. No top-flyer, but hey, look at the price tag! It’s a good bourbon offering good quality for its price. Good everyday sipper
Smooth easy to drink. Has a really sweet smell.
This was my gateway bourbon from scotch enjoyed it
I actually tried this one after taking it's older brother (Eagle Rare). Neither sibling disappoints. Wonderful bourbon that's easy on the pallet and readily available.
Good for the price.
Absolute favorite and my go to bourbon.
Very good go to standard bourbon. Spicey, sweet and a fantastic price.
Good bourbon at a good price point. Nice to keep handy at all times for those who don't want too much bite in their bourbon.
Great bourbon. My go to for cookouts and just a glass after work. Great price point for what you get.
Good bourbon. Nothing special in my opinion.
This is my daily go to bourbon. Perfect balance of price and flavor. I always keep this stocked. Good complexity and linger.
Solid bourbon for the price. It has a nice little bite
A great pour. It has a bit of sweetness to it and finishes smooth. Not a mixer. Drink it neat.
Old fashion go to!!! Find a single barrel pick and you wont be disappointed.
Spicy buttery bourbon with an excellent minty finish... a great value
Solid all around Bourbon. Less sweet and more spicy. Enjoyable clean or on the rocks but cheap enough to not feel guilty about mixing it either.
My go to. Great for the price. Can be drunk on its own as well as in cocktails. I like the velvety feel of this one.
Quite a punch. Like walking barefoot in the scorching sun.
Love it, beautiful.
This is a great value bourbon!
An inexpensive bourbon that is smooth tondrinl
This was super good in an old fashioned.
Good, solid daily drinker
Sweet and simple
Good but not excellent
It's a nice bourbon, very drinkable and has a nice sweet caramel molasses note followed up by a rich spicy kick.
Complex smooth and affordable what more can you ask for!
So well balanced. Darker than most whiskies, but still sweet and a little spicy.
Just plain delicious - great flavor all the way through. Great Old Fashioned, or just over ice.
Definitely in my top choices
Peppery and strong.
Excellent bourbon, recommended by a friend and it turned out to one of the best bourbon's I've tried, especially for the price.
great for mixing with dr pepper
Excellent cheap bourbon
Best Bourbon around for the money!
My “go-to”. Very smooth and easy to drink.
What can I say that isn't already obvious by the lack of availability of this great bourbon. I only wish that everyone wasn't so crazy about BT products now days. This is simply a great bourbon at a great price. Anytime our local stores have it, we're limited to one bottle purchased at a time. Sounds like it is more available in some parts of the country, but not the southeast. Perhaps there are two many of us bourbon drinkers here!
“What’s a good Bourbon that’s priced reasonably and easy to find anywhere?”
While taste is obviously subjective and everyone prefers different things, I have never spoken to a whiskey drinker who had anything bad to say about Buffalo Trace. That being said, it takes no risks so it’s a safe bet which is both its strength and it’s weakness. Cheers
First class complex flavor I use this as a bench mark
One of my favorites. It’s very smooth and sweet.
This is my favorite bourbon! I wish it was easier to get in NC.
An "average" bourbon that is better than average. The little brother of Old Rip Van Winkle. I'd drink it anytime.
