— Bought this a few years back and was blown away. Surprising up front sweetness to start, peaty, medicinal and smoky presence but in the best way possible. Definitely not for beginners or those not accustomed to bold Islay whisky but if that’s your thing, you’re going to love this bottle.
— A bit on the warm side, with hints of sea salt and honey

Richard,
Super smokey but good.
Jake,
Peaty. Very nice
guest,
A bit on the warm side, with hints of sea salt and honey
Kurt,
This has become one of my favorite Islays. On the nose it offers the smoky peaty notes one comes to love in both Islay and “Island” expressions.
On the pallet to me, this also brings a salty briny note with the pepper that is outstanding.
Finish is long enough to make this a wonderful relaxing night’s experience.
Affordable enough to become an everyone is looking for the weekend thing to do.
Zachary,
Strong peat smoke aroma followed by dry grass and horse barn. Apple strudel peeks as the smoke subsides. Dry, ashy, chalky feeling on the tongue. Elderberry and oily black pepper notes.
Stephen,
I love the peat!
Evan,
Everything but the barrel comes from Islay, very cool malt and a unique flavor I would love to purchase again
Lawrence,
I find this to be a very satisfying whiskey. Good nose, taste is mellow though easy to find the peat and sweet elements. Definitely, a go to for me!
Francesco,
I think the taste is very good and the smell either! I like it even if it is very “strong”
Scott,
This is THE definition of peat!
Seth,
Is this a cigar or scotch? Either way, it’s wonderful.
Joshua,
Just lovely. Smoky, PEATY, firey, with the lightest hint of vanilla from out of nowhere in the long, long finish.
guest,
Strong and peaty. Definitely a satisfying dram!
Mason,
Smoke...smoke..... and more smoke
Scott,
Lovely heavy peat. It required a drop or two of water for me in order to open it up a bit more. Nice long finish. I agree with the other comments, unless you are a big peat fan, this is probably not one for you.
Kristen,
Smooth and Smokey nice finish.
Keith,
Nice peat and smoke without being overbearing. Very smooth!
Kris,
Rich, barbecue level smoke on the nose and an absolute peat bomb on the tongue. I highly recommend adding a few drops of water to it to open it up and mellow out the spiciness. If you love peat this is the dram for you, if not, steer clear!
Kyle,
love it, smokey, with complexity and cleanness in the malt backbone. This is the PC series on a budget. Some of the best Islay whisky considering its not owned by the big conglomerates. I will always come back to this bottle.
David,
Heavily peated is an understatement. This is the only bottle I’ve ever thrown away without finishing. Tasted like a swamp. Just not something I can enjoy. Get it if you want something VERY different.
Jake,
perfect balance of peat and sweet. Exactly the price point it should be at. Will be keeping this one in stock as a regular
Craig,
Pat and smoke were understated for me. More burn than I prefer as well.
Scott,
It’s an amazing value. Worth far more than its selling price. I could drink this one every day.
Caitlin,
Great smoke and peat but nuanced enough to taste all underlying flavors
Aaron,
Aroma full of peat, dark chocolate, some light baking spices, and light notes of iodine, metal, and orange. Taste brought a ton more peat, a little spice, and a little chocolate on the finish that adds a touch of sweetness too. Some oak notes develop with time. Mouthfeel was outstanding...nice and heavy but not oily. Really loved that plus the aroma. What was there in the flavor was great but wish there was something else there flavor-wise to add to it and a bit and break up the peat and chocolate. 7.5/10
Randall,
Beautiful heavy peat without the heavy smoke or iodine of other scotches. Complex and high proof but not overwhelming. One of my absolute favorites!
Christopher,
Tastes and feels like a chemical attack on the mucosal membranes and epithelial tissue of my mouth and hard palate... but in a good way. A very good way.
Charles,
I like it. Just enough smoke/peat. Do you ever get Jura 7 Wood?
Orlando,
Very good. Has a strong grassy taste to it. Kept me wanting more.
Gregory,
Very deep and Smokey. One of my favorites
Mike,
Amazing... peaty and strong, yet smooth. Wish I had a gallon jug of this stuff
DANIEL,
Very peaty and rich Scotch but I don't think I'm a fan of the Sherry influence.
Nathan,
MRC:01
Scott,
Very peaty with a nice finish.. definitely will buy again
Kate,
Smoked meat
Forrest,
This is my go-to peated scotch. Rich and complex enough at a reasonable price point.
Justin,
My favorite islay
Brandon,
My favorite of all time. Smokey and delicious.
Phil,
So THIS is what all of those peaty scotches were trying to do... The peat in this bottle, while strong, doesn't come slap you in the face and run away like so many others, it gives you a long deep kiss on the lips and makes itself at home.
Jason,
This is a great peated whisky, less smoky than a campfire rye from high west, so it’s a nice balance of strength without the overkill.
Adam,
My new favorite peaty Scotch!
Peter,
Balanced, smoky, peaty.
Jeremiah,
Just lovely. Smokey peat smell and taste. Full flavor.
Piotr,
Honestly, I expected more. More depth, more character, more finish. It still very good peated whisky - and I love peated whisky - but is not exceptional. Nothing like Lagavulin 16YO for example.
Todd,
Excellent dram! Fantastic nose with a equally satisfying pallet. Rich smokey taste that lingers.
Steve,
I learned of this distillery and peated whisky through a documentary of Bruichladdich and Jim McEuen and the area of Scotland. I have enjoyed many single malts and blends but was new to peated malts. I will say it is an acquired taste and does not do well with bitter or sour additions. The odd combination of lemon twist, however did make for a pleasant drink and had a nice aftertaste as well.
Greg,
This is a great drink with a fun flavor mix with the peat. And oh the peat is very fine.
Pricey by my lights for a daily dram but a great weekender. The flavor spiral is on target.
guest,
Algo hermoso este single malt. Sorprende la fruta y chocolate bailando con el ahumado... desde los cítricos hacia las bayas!
Final largo y reconfortante, definitivamente, una buena recomendación!
Dat,
Definitely peaty, and truth be told, not as complex as Son of a Peat II. Whereas Son of a Peat II was rated 8/10 because of its complex profile, I think Port Charlotte 10 years is worth about 7/10 as it is lacking the smoothness and pungency of the finish. I had the pleasure to compare this to the Port Charlotte MRC, and the MRC came out on top (8.5/10) even though it is only aged 7 to 8 years old. The MRC finish definitely cranked it up.
Bob,
Good - not great. A bit too peaty without much of anything else to balance it out.
David,
Not necessarily my thing. Its not bad, its just a lot. You certainly get what you ask for when it says Heavily Peated. The finish is a bit harsh or rough around the edges if you will. Not for all, but I imagine if this is your thing, you love it.
Donald,
I'm in the minority here. It was just Ok A bit too complex, rusty, smokey with a harsh finish. Not a favorite. As a matter of fact, I finished the bottle over ice with seltzer water. MEH
Donald,
Meh. A bit too woody. Not the best finish. A bit harsh going down. Very complex taste. Almost too complex
Christopher,
The best that peated whiskey has to offer
Dartanyon,
Robust smoky amazing taste.
Marc,
One of my new favorites. Smooth and Peaty!
guest,
Nice smoky, peaty Islay whiskey. Some underlying notes of caramel and black pepper. Nice lasting earthy finish. Noticed a little more of a floral taste with water.
Michael,
This is the best whisky I ever tasted! 🥃
Aaron,
Excellent, maybe one of my favorites.
Stephen,
My favorite Scotch and one that I will be ordering for a third time. Great blend of smoke, peat and a subtle underlying sweetness. Definitely worth a try, especially at this price point.
Coy,
One of my favorites from Islay! Plenty of smoke but the peat isn’t overwhelming. A couple of drops of water leads to quite the blossom of floral tones and helps tame the higher abv. This is one I always have in my cabinet!
Steven,
A lot of drinkers will shy away from the peated Islay Scotches, however not all peated whiskies are the same...certainly not on Islay. The wine cask influence on this Port Charlotte 10 brings a subtle sweetness that tampers the smoke and makes it a more gentle approachable whisky than perhaps the Ardbegs, Caol Ilas, Laphroaigs and Lagavulins...Yes it has that Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt embossed on the bottle and tin but don't let that put you off trying this..because this is a nicely balanced whisky that will introduce you to a new world of peat of you are a newcomer, gently hugging you with its smoky sweetness, without giving you a smack in the face like some others...and then the fun begins, because now if after this you like a little peat in your drink your choices have just become a bit more open
Robert,
Very enjoyable!
George,
Definitely the go-to scotch for me when I want to treat myself to a quiet evening in.
Dennis,
Incredibly smooth, even though it's rich with peat.
Duane,
Port Charlotte' is my go to peat. Easy Drinking that delivers a satisfying Mossy Dram. Sweat Peat nose. Heavy mouth feel with wonderful caramel finish. I' prefer this over Laphroaig 10. Mentioning it in the same sentence with Lagavulin 16 is almost disrespectful to Lagavulin.
guest,
Tastes like woodsmoke but somehow in a good way. The strongest bite I’ve had that doesn’t taste even slightly medicinal, really encapsulates the fire of an Islay.
Sophian,
Sweet peat if you can sit through a blast of iodine-engine grease for a few seconds. Love it! Strong ABV merely focuses the essence of Port Charlotte's distillate.
Chris,
Heavily smoky, deep flavor tones that blend together exquisitely. It's definitely got a decent amount of heat, but unlike some liquors where there's a bigger medicinal quality to the heat - this one is a bit more like you are inhaling a smoky peaty campfire.
Zach,
First and foremost, the scent of pete will hit your nose before you pick the glass up, which is delightful. It definitely has a nice sweetness to it as well. However I disagree with some of the other comments about how smooth it is. Definitely seems a bit fiery to me, albeit enjoyable. Better than most, but doesn’t quite hold up to a Laga 16 or Laph 10. At the price point, you’re getting a better sip out of a Laphroaig 10 f’sho.
Scott,
Smootheat, smokiest, peatiest scotch ever. Definitely in my top 5
CJ,
Neat peat that stays through from front to finish. Not the strongest peat but a very rich flavor. Very smooth will keep you coming back for more.
Jonathan,
Excellent! Very nice peat; heavy but not overly so you don't feel like you are sticking you head in a campfire! One of the smoothest 10 year whiskies I have had.
james,
I LOVE this whisky!! Laphroaig introduced me to the peat thing , and Lagavulin is exceptional, but this is other worldly. I have never had 100 proof ANYTHING that was this smooth. Exceptional.
Duane,
The only way I can describe this is Exceptional! Rich nose of sweet stewed berries and wonderful earthy peat is complex and alluring. Luxurious mouth feel leads to a burst of complex notes that you will enjoy chasing sip after enjoyable sip. With a 50% APV pushing the flavors into deep expression. I found that a drop of water brings out a more accentuated mouth feel of honey. This a permanent space on my bar.
Jason,
Absolutely wonderful. Really smooth start to finish. Perfect amount of smoke.
Chase,
It’s like if Islay punched you in the face and then gave you a hug.
Aaron,
I really loved the smokiness. I will buy again.
guest,
Not overly peaty, but just right!
Jon,
My new favorite peated scotch! I was expecting punch-in-the-mouth peat flavor from the name, but Port Charlotte isn't like that. The sherry finish is a perfect pairing as well. All around a very smooth dram that hits on all my favorite classic scotch flavors.
Carlton,
Less body than a Lagavulin 16, which I prefer, but a very nice peated expression. Mouth feel notwithstanding, I actually like this better than the 10YO Laphroaig and Ardbeg.
Sean,
Can you say peaty??? Mmmmm.
Nolan,
When advertised as heavily peated, I expected it to be overly peated, but as it's an Isly scotch, it works incredibly well. This is a fantastic beverage that deserves to be drank by each and everyone of you. Give it a chance.
Nolan,
I don't know how to describe it using specific flavors. If you like scotch, this will be a good one. It tastes like a solid, good bottle of Scotch.
Tim,
Awesome. Wanted more smoke but other than that great.
Jorge,
My peaty palate has adapted well to 16 y Lagavulin but I must say this gem matched (and maybe exceeded) in the peat dept by my taste. I thought it was well balanced and my throat was happy with the follow through
