Unlike those college years, here’s an example of experimentation gone completely and utterly right: Bruichladdich’s Octomore 01.1. Yep, the crew behind this distillery is known for some of the biggest and baddest experimentation out there. And they wanted to prove that the quality of Scotch isn’t just a function of its age.
Thus was born Octomore. It was named for James Brown’s farm above Port Charlotte, where the distillery once produced very heavily peated Whisky. Now, this being their very first Peat-child ever, it’s a bit light on PPM’s compared to later editions. But this is the first. And you never forget your first.
