A lovely, award-winning London Dry Gin with a floral character from Eastern Europe.
Why would you name your company "Broken Bones?" The distillery was founded in Slovenia by Boštjan Marušič, Borut Osojnik, and Polona Preskar. They hadn’t named their fledgling business yet and were filling barrels of Whisky for aging. Boštjan and Borut both had just come from the hospital because one had broken a leg and the other his nose. So, the distillery named itself. They produce a tidy range of five Gins and a Whisky from Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Broken Bones London Dry Gin starts with a unique base Spirit. It’s made from sugar beet molasses triple-distilled into a neutral Spirit at 96% ABV. It’s then infused with botanical in a London Dry style, but with an emphasis on florals, including Juniper, rose-hips, linden flowers, lemon zest, cardamon, and licorice root. The resulting Spirit is cut to bottle at 45% ABV and has gone on to win a slew of awards.
Smartass Corner:
When we think of sugar, we normally thing of sugarcane. But 20% of all sugar production comes from sugar beets — mostly from temperate zones where sugarcane will not grow.
