Member Reviews and Ratings of Breckenridge Port Cask Finish
One of my all time favorites.
Expected a smoother finish
Full and smooth with a oak barrel char that doesn’t overpower the other flavors
I enjoyed it very much, smooth with a spicy sweet finish.
Very smooth. Strong notes of fruit and wine, with a mellow, almost dry finish. If you're in the mood for something bold and spicy, this probably isn't it. But if you are looking for something easy drinking and smooth, this is a great choice.
One of my all time favorites, it’s like an Old Fashioned by itself.
Taking their base bourbon (which I rated an above average 7) and finish in port casks really added to the complexity. Very tasty sipper with a great finish that I will be keeping on my bar. Solid 8.0 rating.
very smooth, very well made, minimal bite. the port flavor is hard to taste (for me) unless i'm doing a side-by-side with a regular whiskey
Solid whiskey, the port finish is terrific!
I've had corked (or cork taint) wine before but never experienced it in a spirit until I ordered this product. When I opened the bottle I immediately picked up a musty odor coming from the bottle. It left a strange after taste in my mouth. Cork Taint is caused by the presence of TCA in the cork. I called Breckenridge thinking they may won't to know they may have a TCA problem but they pretty much blew me off. So I will most likely not be buying anymore from Breckenridge in the future. Too bad, because I enjoyed their bourbon.
Did you call the vineyard of the wine that was corked and did they listen to you and address the problem? Or did you just rip them in a forum and trash their product because of one bad bottle?
I thought I’d like this after enjoying the sherry cask and preferring port. This is average.
Great when a distillery expands. On the nose is butterscotch raisins. On palate Get maple covered fruit finished in baking spices. Definitely one to enjoy with a cigar.
Not impressed. Saw all the higher reviews so gave it a shot. This bourbon is hot and sharp neat, better over ice but just doesn't have enough flavor for me. I can't pick up the port finish.
Love the soft warmth of this bourbon
Sweeter than other Breckenridge whiskeys. It has a rich caramel taste and stay consistent from start to finish. I prefer this to the Reserve Blend from Flaviar, which was not as smooth.
A wonderfully authentic rye presentation...different in a very good way!
I find this bourbon sweet and caramelly from start to finish. I don’t taste port per se, but I think the port cask provides a sweeter, less oaky finish that I really enjoy.
Loving this rye bourbon. Sweet, caramel nose. Stays consistent from the front to the back on the taste. Big rye flavor with raisins, but also a bourbon sweetness that sticks around well after you finish. The port cask really comes in at the finish as well, with that port wine sugary lingering well after.
Smooth and very enjoyable. Nice fruit notes.
Great flavor, smooth finish with a sweet, smoky aftertaste! Great whiskey!
Very smooth. One of my favorites.
This is a very good whiskey. For something that is relatively young the flavor is nuanced and balanced, and almost on par - and in some cases more drinkable - than Jefferson’s Cabernet cask. Recommended.
The regular Breckinridge is good, and this port cask finish is next level!
So smooth and easy to drink with a sweet finish
I hoped for more and waited months to get it, still good
Yes, please. Was pleasantly surprised how much I loved this one!
Nice sweet overtones on the nose and back. Enjoyable!
One of the best Bourbons out there!!.. Starts with slight burn, with fruity finish towards end.. very easy to drink neat!
Above average for a port finish. Very enjoyable
Very nice, great value
Quite smooth, I taste the slightly sweet and dried fruit. My first smell detected banana. I enjoyed it!
I'm a port wine drinker and a bourbon drinker. What a delightful treat to have a mash-up that is so well executed. Very, very nice.
Very smooth. A tad on sweet side; but for a blended whiskey - I’ll continue to enjoy. I read a previous review that said Breckinridge didn’t let them down yet. Cheers to that! I agree. I’m very curious how this compares to the px cask so that might be next on the list. If the proof was a bit higher I’d give a ten... 🥃
PX is even better!
Really enjoying this port wine finish. Lots of vanilla and caramel, but also a hint ofaple syrup and red fruit port influence. Very nice.
Great flavor, got kick, but more than manageable. Well rounded with a little sweetness.
A little hint of port wine behind a balanced sweet but not sugary taste with a smooth and fruity finish
Very smooth and mild. Easy to enjoy as it is both aromatic and soft on palette. Highly recommend! Cheers!
Very smooth and one of the rare ones where I can actually taste the nuanced flavors within. I really enjoy this and is one of my all time favorites.
Really liked this one! This is one that you grab a cigar and your glass, some great company and spoil yourself.
Terrific! One of my new favorites.
Rye heavy with a smooth finish.
Wow! Great taste. Smooth!
Great bourbon nose with a rich grape finish. Balanced and enjoyable.
Breckinridge has never let me down and this was no exception. Great taste, only complaint is it disappeared fast, once a couple of friends joined for a glass or two. :)
So bloody good. The extra port cask really helps round out a nice spicy bourbon.
I loved this whiskey. My pallet skews toward the sweet side so a port finished bourbon is right up my ally. Strong butterscotch and dried cherry on the nose. The cherry carries through to the pallet along with some raisin and plum. Rich on the tongue. Finish is long and satisfying with a touch of spice. This is a great after dinner dram.
I have tried a number of port cask finished whiskeys. My favorite being The Balvenie 21 year. I had high hopes for this product but I have to say that I am deeply disappointed. The flavor profile for this whisky is horrible. It comes on with a strong rotten prune taste and has a rather flat almost tinny finish to it. Frankly I'm going to put this one on the shelf and serve it to friends who are interested in trying it but I am not going to touch this one again.
