Lowlands Scotch

Right between the Highlands and England, there are the Lowlands. They’re flat and are mostly known for haggis and Trainspotting.

The Lowland Scotches are generally soft, smooth and gentle, and are usually known as “The Lowland Ladies”. The Scots joke that the feminine character comes from the proximity to England, but the real reason is the triple distillation traditionally employed in the region. The process amps up the ABV and makes the Spirit lighter.

Glenkinchie of Edinburgh and Auchentoshan of Glasgow are the prototypes of the easy-drinking style that celebrates the notes of grass, toffee, and cinnamon.
