Armagnac is to Cognac what Scotch is to Bourbon. They are both Brandy, but there are some important differences. Armagnac is about 150 years older than Cognac and it comes from - you guessed it - the Armagnac region in SW France.
Armagnac is quite refined and slightly rustic, and it was used as medicine in the 14th century. We’re suspicious of claims that it cures hepatitis and gout, but we’d be hard-pressed to find something classier.
