Character Goatson

John Rempe, the creator of Blood Oath, once made an oath: That every batch of Blood Oath is the undertaking of one man, loyal to no one family, favoring no one distillery and bound by no one philosophy. His goal: To seek out Bourbons rare and wonderful, famous and forgotten. Then bottle them in combinations previously unimagined for a lucky few.

Pact no. 8 is a masterful union of three well-bred Bourbons. One, a 14-year ryed Bourbon. Two, an 11-year ryed Bourbon. And three, an 8-year ryed Bourbon finished in Calvados casks from the Normandy region of France. This last one imparted slight apple on the nose with hints of vanilla and cinnamon, just to make sure you can place Northern France on your taste map.

Bourbon must be made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn.
Bourbons have very prominent notes of vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.
Bourbon matures quicker than Scotch due to higher temperatures in American warehouses.
Sure, Kentucky gets all the press when it comes to Bourbon. And with good reason—nearly 95% of it is produced there. But Bourbon can be made anywhere as long as it's within the United States. Just ask states with budding distilleries like Illinois and New York.
At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.

J.B.'s father, Joseph W. Dant, invented a still made from a poplar log at 16, as he couldn't afford a copper still. Although crude, it worked exceptionally well!
