In a world of super-mega-conglomerates dominating international liquor distribution, Luxco stands out as one of the few larger, family-owned companies. But they have a large footprint. By our count they have 198 Spirit brands and variants across the full spectrum of adult beverages. If you have sipped at a bar or mixed cocktails at home you have had their products — from the classic Triple Sec to Rebel Yell Bourbon. The Blood Oath brand is the passion project of John E. Rempe who came to Luxco more than seventeen years ago to develop their portfolio of premium Spirits.
Each release of Blood Oath is called a "pact" and each one is a unique blend of select casks. This one is from 2021 and it joins together 3 well-bred Bourbons: a 14YO extra-aged Rye Bourbon, a 8YO Rye Bourbon, and another 8YO Rye Bourbon that was finished in Sauternes Wine casks that come from the Bordeaux region. These impart it with sweetness to balance all the additional spice, caramel, and oak on the palate. If you’re looking for a unique Bourbon blend, this one is it.

Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.

J.B.'s father, Joseph W. Dant, invented a still made from a poplar log at 16, as he couldn't afford a copper still. Although crude, it worked exceptionally well!
At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.
Straight Bourbon must be matured for at least 2 years. If a bottle has no age statement, it’s at least 4 years old.
Pinhooking means purchasing and rearing a foal based on its pedigree and either selling it or turning it into a champ racing horse. The same idea is behind Pinhook Bourbon: they source young Whiskey to mature and blend it into a blue-ribbon sipping Bourbon.
