Meet one of the only six remaining Lowland Single Malt distilleries and the one that is the furthest south in Scotland. Founded in 1817 by John and Thomas McClelland, it was bought by Australian entrepreneur David Prior a few years ago. Prior installed all new equipment and today, they’re issuing forth releases from inventory and new-make production.

The Bladnoch before you is part of their highly-anticipated new releases. It spent 25 years resting, which gave this mature offering plenty of time to slowly develop all the big and oily flavors of rich fruit notes, praline, malt, raisins, and prunes that we adore so much. Talk about a big comeback.

Blended Whiskies are the result of years of craftsmanship and dedication. A master blender does not simply wake up one day with a profound ability to create a cohesive and enjoyable liquid. From nosing the liquid to working out quantities of each different grain and malt to go into the blend, a master blender can take years, if not decades, to train.
Beer and malt Whisky seem to have quite a bit in common. Both drinks begin with malted barley, which deliver the enzymes and sugars needed for fermentation when steeped in hot water. The two go their separate ways at the wash stage, where they're fermented or aged to become the adult beverages you know and love.
Is Scotch always Scottish? What do you think? Yes. The answer is yes.
David Prior made his fortune building a successful chain of yoghurt shops in Australia called "five:am yoghurt." he sold his successful company for £52 million, and is wisely -- in our opinion -- investing those proceeds in Bladnoch.
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Scotland is home to more than 20 million casks of maturing Whisky. That’s four for every person living there. Nuts!
