A sonic-finished Whiskey from legendary superstars.

You know how plants are supposed to flourish more if you play them Mozart? Now imagine aging your Whiskey with music. What would you play? Metallica, of course. And that is what's really happening now: the original gangsters of metal just gave us their brand new Whiskey called Blackened American Whiskey. So metal, right? Dave Pickerell, the former Master Distiller at Maker's Mark, made a hardcore blend of American Bourbon, Rye, and Whiskey, tucked away next to subwoofers that blast low-frequency sound waves to enhance the molecules. And every new batch of five thousand bottles comes with a different Metallica playlist.

We know what you're thinking: just another rock star gimmick. Well, a 2017 study on Brandy and sound-aging actually says this thing works and Metallica's Whiskey in a jar-ow is really good. And while this blend of hand-selected, well-aged Bourbons & Ryes is finished with Hetfield's madness, it's matured in black Brandy casks, which brings apricot notes with honey and caramel flavors to this Bourbon-lead mosh-pit.

Blackened "The Empire State" Cask Strength Limited Edition is their superstar release. This is an exceptionally well-balanced batch that starts off savory and evolves into sweet corn, rye, and apricot notes on the finish. Rob Dietrich curated a unique playlist to bring this 115.57 proof Whiskey to life. You can find the playlist on the website and listen while you sip – get your other senses working, too.

An un-aged American Whisky is often called “white dog.”Sour Mash is the fermentation process by which a percentage of a previous fermentation is added to a new batch as a "starter" to get the fermentation going and maintain a level of consistency from batch to batch. A sweet mash means that only fresh yeast is added to a new batch to start fermentation.
Rye Whiskey is made from mash that is at least 51 percent rye. The grain gives Rye Whiskey its spicy, sometimes peppery, and bitter flavor. It was a big seller before Prohibition, and after decades in obscurity, it’s fashionable again. Fun fact: George Washington distilled Rye Whiskey at Mount Vernon.
Corn Whiskey is a commercial product that must contain at least 80% corn, be distilled at less than 80% ABV (160 proof), and, if wood-aged, may be aged in either used or new un-charred barrels.
Tennessee Whiskey closely parallels Bourbon, but final filtering through sugar-maple charcoal (called the Lincoln County Process) is what some producers say differentiates them. Tennessee Whiskey’s finish is sweeter and smoother than Bourbon.
Moonshine Whiskey is distilled from a varied mix of corn and sugar and is aged in Mason jars and jugs for the length of time it takes the customers to get home.
Bourbon rules refer to manufacturing methods rather than location. Bourbon must be matured in new and charred American white oak casks for at least 2 years. If the bottle has no age statement, the Bourbon is at least 4 years old. No coloring or flavoring of any type is allowed, and the mash bill must contain at least 51% corn.
