The Black Velvet Distillery is a sprawling production complex in southern Alberta, Canada. They have the second-highest production and export volume in Canadian Whiskies, behind Crown Royal.
The facility was built in 1973, when it’s then owner — Constellation Brands — decided to consolidate its domestic production into one facility, on the site of the older Palliser Distillery.
The location is ideal, with access to plenty of high quality water, and set in the middle of millions of acres of grain and corn fields, with ready access to rail lines for transport. Black Velvet brands and facilities are now owned by the Sazerac Company since they acquired all of Constellation brands, in 2009.
