Founded in 1930
Black Velvet is one of the best known Canadian Whiskies. When it was first released in the 1030’s, it was a quickly produced product, of relatively low quality. At that time it was called “Black Label Canadian Whisky” and was produced at the Schenley Distillery (now called Valleyfield Distillery).

But by the late 1940s, master distiller Jack Napier got a hold of the brand and refined it nicely — rechristening it "Black Velvet" due to its newly acquired, smoother taste. Black Velvet is a product of Constellation Brands and is a blend of Canadian Whiskies.

The exact mix varies depending on availability and mixing requirement to match the target flavor profile. But all reviews suggest that it is a solid entry category and a good value for the money. Look for flavors of coconut, caramel, and vanilla.
