Black Bull Scotch brings no bull, just pure awesomeness.
The story of Black Bull is as old as the Cowboy hat. It started 150 years ago when one George Willsher tinkered and pondered in the backroom of his grocery and Spirits shop in Dundee. He had a vision: very strong, high-malt blended Whisky that would be "something else." Sure, people told him it was preposterous, even impossible, but he flipped them and created a special formula. 50% Single Malt, 50% Single Grain, and 100 Proof. By kicking conformity in the shin, George came up with a fresh and innovative potion.
Today, the lads and lassies behind the brand still adhere to the George Code, so when they released Kyloe, it was no surprise it was "something else". Kyloe is named after the tough Highland cattle that can survive just about any type of weather. Black Bull Kyloe Whisky, too, is robust and strong. Only the best Speyside Malts were chosen for the blend. They're a mix of refill Bourbon and Sherry casks, blended with aged grain. At 50%, it's a daring and vigorous expression that will allure both the Scotch rookies and the seasoned aficionados.
Nose: light wood and apple notes
Mouthfeel: light and smooth
Taste: cinnamon and salty brine, slight peat
Heavy vanilla on the nose. Fruity notes were apparent as well. Blind, first thing I said was vanilla and apple. On the taste I got toffee and heavy malt with a fruity finish. The raisin and chocolate were great hints as well. Would love a full bottle. Tasted in the blended not stirred box.
Unfortunately, this guy didn't do it for me. It was too hot, abrasive, and more like a unrefined wild horse. I did give it a few stars for the taste after my mouth calmed down from getting kicked.
Smoothe with a slight burn a bit after finish - solid
A smooth drink with a nice flavor.
Smooth start with a nice burn at the end.
Need to mix with water. The toffee/alcohol taste was too much.
This is a great blended whisky. Good citrus flavor and smooth.
Full taste! The toffee and the thicker mouthfeel go nicely to surround the citrus and the warmth. It has a complex flavour I love. I’ll be looking for more from Black Bull in the future.
Surprisingly complex for a blend. Malt, fruity sweetness with chocolate notes. Delightful. Definitely worth a try. Tasted blind I would not have guessed this was 50% ABV.
Smooth. Easy to drink. Vanilla and citrus flavor. Very light.
Vanilla dominant on the nose. I get mainly citrus and oak on the tongue. Decent, but probably wouldn’t buy a whole bottle. The alcohol burn is a bit too much to make it enjoyable.
The malt/chocolate are most evident in my taster. A bit of a bite, and the 100 proof is apparent. Part of the Blended 3 tasting box, and probably wouldn’t buy a full bottle, but it’s decent.
Definite vanilla notes with a hint of citrus on the nose
Strong fruity taste, strong drink (50% ABV).
Very pleasant. Indeed citrus on the tongue with a little aged fruit. Apple on the finish. Not sweet at all
Clearly a high-proof spirit. The toffee and tobacco notes were evident, but we didn’t really notice the citrus except for the aftertaste. Very enjoyable. - Jen and Kevin
Very smooth, citrus notes.
Very smooth, not smoky. Fruity, similar to Glenlivet.
Surprisingly good for young palate
We loved this specific Scotch, Black Bull, out of the tasting box and unfortunately it is not available for purchase. Why would you include something in the Tasting Box that can’t be purchased? We are Extremely Unhappy and we just renewed our membership! We are requesting another tasting box of Scotch in place of this recently ordered one.
I liked this. Had a slightly odd nose, almost vinegar but may be the fruit. Taste was good. Sweet and spicy. Chocolate came out with water.
I agree with others who have noted the ‘tequila’ smell. Strong citrus and a bit of a bite. A little different from the pack.
Least favorite of the three in the pack. Not a lot of interesting flavors.
Has a bit of a bite. The citrus and malt battle it out, with some subtle apple on the back end.
The aroma on the nose was just “weird”. Not a fan. The palate was OK. Chocolate and Malt and vanilla is what I got and it was a pleasant drink and it was smooth. But that aroma was just nuts. I have not had another like this scent and don’t want to either.
I didnt care for the aroma. It reminded me of tequila. But the taste was very smooth with a fruity bite. Not too bad. I couldn't see myself drinking a lot of it though.
Very strong burns your nose. Tasted the citrus at the end. Tasted the chocolate and malt strongest. Probably wouldn’t buy a whole bottle
More like a rye. Fruity and spicy. I really like this but it doesn’t sip like a scotch.
Not as smooth as other reviewers say it is. Overall very average
Citrus, chocolate, raisin, really liked it
Very fruity with a strong zest/rind flavor
I haven’t been drinking whiskey for that long but this is a smooth whiskey on the sweeter side. Easier to drink than other whiskeys especially if you are new to whiskey.
Too much of a gin / juniper flavor for my liking.
Complex flavor; great blend
Love it! The citrus flavor suits summertime!
I think is a nice easy drinking scotch, especially if you are new to scotch.
Very sweet and citrusy with a pepper bite.
Great flavor profile, just a little too bold for my taste.
Alcohol over powered the flavors. Had a bite
I didn’t like the nose at all. The taste profile it had lots of citrus and fruit with some nice toffee and nutty tones on the finish.
Gross - tastes literally like vodka.
Found this enjoyable but not spectacular. It’s an above average scotch whiskey with an appropriate price tag. Flavor profile is definitely malt-y. Hard to distinguish anything beyond. Not a special occasion drink by any means but still a good stock the bar for the afternoon taster.
Very good, with smooth fruit notes.
100 proof. That’s good enough for me.
Nice! Smooth, approachable, recognizable as a scotch but easy peasy
Heavy toffee and vanilla on nose. Medium finish, smooth, easy to drink, but nothing special.
Not a huge Scotch person, but this one was smooth with a nice full finish.
Strong notes of apple at the beginning with a very powerful whiskey bite in the finish. Not as smooth as one would prefer, but that's the price you typically pay when it's 50% ABV.
I don’t even like Scotch, but this was pretty good. Sweet finish was nice.
Definitely strong but smooth. Aggressive during the taste but the aftertaste was super toasted oak.
I like it. Citrus I a little overpowering for me but the finish is long and pleasant!
Deliciously smooth for 100 proof. Strong toffee smell and taste. A sweet after taste.
It punches you in the face at least 5 times but you get a Carmel at the end.
very smooth, rich, depth of flavor, NO harsh finish
