Benromach has a wild history, changing many hands in the last 125 years. The cherished Speysider was even mothballed in 1983, and it took fifteen years and a legend such as Gordon & MacPhail to bring it back.

This precious expression is Whisky from that pre-shutdown era and comes in a luxurious wooden box. The Sherry casks that held it for almost half a century were filled in the Seventies, and it shows in the venerable Scotch: perfect, layered nose, gentle and silky palate (fruits & leather), with a refined and looooooong finish. It will undoubtedly bring a knowing smirk to your face if you dare open it.

Categories of Scotch Whisky: Single malt, Blended malt (formerly called Vatted malt), blended, single grain and blended grain Scotch.
Beer and malt Whisky seem to have quite a bit in common. Both drinks begin with malted barley, which deliver the enzymes and sugars needed for fermentation when steeped in hot water. The two go their separate ways at the wash stage, where they're fermented or aged to become the adult beverages you know and love.
90% of all Scotch Whiskies sold are Blends.
Scotch Whisky is seldom aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation. In addition to that, Whisky is often matured or finished in various wine casks such as Sherry or Port.
Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
For Gordon & MacPhail, Benromach is a lobor of love. They have been running their independent bottling business for over 115 years. They purchased Benromach after issuing several of their private releases from there. They continue to invest heavily in this, their one and only distillery.
