Top reviews for Bender's Rye Whiskey:
— This is the Uma Thurman of Rye whiskeys. At first, you might think it's unattractive. But after your second encounter, you realize this is the rye you've been waiting for your whole life. My first taste left me with a strong, spicy taste that did not mellow. However, on second approach (and after a bit of chilling and a dash of water), the buttery, sweet characteristics came out. I have had the pleasure of enjoying many an outstanding Rye, but this is the "one that got away". The small taste that came with my Flaviar box has stayed with me for the past 2 months. I have actively searched for it at every Manhattan liquor store I have shopped at, but like a New York minute, it has eluded me. It is, without a doubt, the most intriguing bottle of rye that I have ever had the pleasure of including in my liquor cabinet. Don't be stupid. Buy the freaking bottle.
— Loved it!! Sweet for a Rye, but so smooth.
— LOVED this. Almost like a hot buttered rum — dessert-like for sure. Smooth and warm.

Wesley,
Really enjoyed. Was one of three in my sample box and was by far the best.
Mike,
Good flavor base and favorite out of the tasting set. Good easy drinker
guest,
Not good, bordering on undrinkable. It was so unpleasant we had to get something to eat to get the taste out of our mouths. No thank you!
Alan,
Better than scotch but least favorite whiskey so far
Tim,
Starts Fruity, sweet with spicy to finish.
Charles,
The flavor profile was spot on with notes of rye, vanilla, cherry and some spice. The finish was pretty short but as an entry bottle to ryes, this one isn't bad.
Mitch,
Almost as a rye posed as a bourbon.
Patrick,
Not at all a fan. No body. Limited flavor. Minimal burn. Funky aftertaste. Sorry, but I don’t like it. Not one bit.
Ryan,
Best of the tasting sample package. Smooth with some cherry.
Skip,
This came as a sample in a tasting - I would definitely buy this.
ERIC,
Vanilla and pepper on the nose, sweet with a spicier finish. Easy enough neat. Was part of the sample pack, certainly worth considering a full bottle.
David,
Best of the sample pack. I sipped neat and on the rocks, it’s smooth with none of the burn of other Rye whiskies in the sample pack.
Joe,
The nose is a little off for me. But the palate delivers. Light body, pretty big flavor. Spices, cinnamon candy, honeyed apricots.
Bryan,
Felt is was way too spicy when neat. Opened up and mellowed out with a cube. Still not a favorite but wouldn’t turn it down either.
Adam,
Spicy but good drinkability. Almost neutral smell.
Stephen,
spicy and light, with a slight peppery finish. Really enjoyable.
Jerry,
Would be great in a Manhattan
Greg,
This was our second favorite from the tasting box. It has a buttery creaminess to it that is nice but there is bitterness that I would describe as baker’s chocolate along with the dark cherry. It’s an interesting blend and might be great for cocktails, but I probably wouldn’t buy it to sip.
Vincent,
Too spicy for me. Kinda taste like dirt.
Joshua,
Spicy and hot to finish. Light in mouth. High alcohol taste for abv
Bill,
Surprisingly light and spicy flavor. Not what I expected from a Rye.
Carl,
Nice spice
Sondra,
Favorite of the sampler, a nice smooth sipping whiskey.
Ryan,
Light and sweet. The fruitiness reminds me of a subtle wine flavor
james,
Super smooth. not usually a Rye fan but this one was great. Not too spicy but a good amount of pepper.
Chris,
A bit harsh. Funny flavor with lingering not so good finish
Michael,
Not a terrible rye. But not the best in my opinion. Didn't care for the flavor or finish. It doesn't have a terrible burn or anything, just find the overall flavors to be harsh and lacking depth.
Corey,
Light taste, easy drinking.
Michael,
5
Douglas,
Too much spice
Nicholas,
I picked up on the fruity notes in this, but didn’t much care for the overall flavor or finish.
Corey,
Very smooth
Carl,
Interesting fruity nose and finish, but taste leaves something to be desired.
Eye: pale yellow
Nose: Fruity (pineapple)
Taste: Astringent
Finish: Pineapple
Mouth feel: Thin
Jeffrey,
Weak start, but good finish. I’d rather put my money elsewhere.
Beau,
Initial Taste of high proof. Evens out in the end. Decent nose as well.
Ivan,
Strong flavors of vanilla and spicy. Also has a serious high proof after taste.
Kelly,
Really hot for the ABV. Not a lot of flavors in there. Seems like it needs double the time in the barrel.
Jason,
Not a fan. Very much middling flavors, heavy on vanilla and some booze. Least favorite in the set.
Stephen,
sweet smooth smell, smooth taste, spicy finish
Bryan,
Aroma’s are pleasant. There is a bit of a spice kick/burn at the start. With a few drops of ice water is become much more flavorful. Overall it’s a decent sipper
Antti,
It is a good, intense, Rye Whiskey that has a spicy birth; while a rich life leads to a long & full death with notes of rye & pepper.
David,
Even my wife liked this one. Nice nose and the forward flavors were distinctive, especially when opened up with dropper of water.
DANIEL,
Got this in my tasting box and it was easily my least favorite. Very strong alcohol smell like crown which I don't like. First taste was all spice followed by vanilla and a rough burn going down. Other reviewers are correct that water and ice helps tame the spice and bring out the buttery flavors but it was still not good. Wouldn't buy at all.
Vincent,
Got this in my sampler. I don't like to complain, but something tasted very off. Huge parsley, gasoline, and other vegetal notes. That can't be right. Would be open trying again, though, if it was one-time issue.
Jon,
The noise is not pleasant
Amalie,
Super spicy upfront! But a cozy warm blanket with fuzzy socks once you settle in.
Robert,
Young whiskey. The smell and taste of alcohol is prevalent but not unpleasant. For a 90 proof it’s rather smooth with little bite. The butter and malty profiles are out in front. Oak and fruit appear depending on where the sip falls on your tongue.
Jeff,
This was rough neat, but I added a splash of water and it was very enjoyable. I’d imagine over an ice cube it’d be pretty solid as well.
Michelina,

Robert,
Good taste and nice finish. Use a cube of ice with it
james,
i’m not sure what that initial flavor was for some reason I can’t put my finger on it but I am not a fan
Patrick,
Great if you like mixing rubbing alcohol with your whiskey !!
Justin,
I enjoyed this. At first not so much, as I thought a butter taste came on too strong. After putting it on ice and letting sit for a little while, a sweetness came out and almost reminded me of an oak aged sweet butter cream if that makes any sense. Haha.
Ron,
Sweet and spicy but not very complex. Added a couple of drops of water to tame the heat.
Alex,
Eh, it’s cool what they’re doing but unfortunately it’s not my glass of rye. Nothing in the profile stood out flavor wise. Sorry to say I would not recommend.
Casey,
Too light.
Matt,
Sweet and buttery with just enough spice. Not a great sipper, but I can see it as a good base for a cocktail, lots of different notes going on that could compliment many different types of cocktails. For the price, though, I wouldn’t make it my first choice.
Todd,
This is one of my least favorite ryes I have tried. Very heavy on the alcohol. Almost medicinal.
Daniel,
Aroma:. Slightly sweet, Woody, iodine-y. Taste: malty with a hint of spice. Alcohol overpowers. On ice: malty, hint of sweetness.
Not going to be high on my list of ones to buy or drink again. Won't turn down if handed to me.
Lane,
Pure alcoholic smell couldn’t get past but had sweet buttery taste with a spiced finish. Too strong of a smell and too sweet for my taste
Craig,
I feel like I must have gotten a different batch from other reviewers here. I found this terrible, all ethyl at the nose, then thin and rough and quietly chaotic from start to finish. It brings me no pleasure to give such a negative review, and I wish Bender's well, but boy there's not much to like here.
Byron,
Let it breathe and it will take your breath away
Lacey,
Loved it!! Sweet for a Rye, but so smooth.
Briana,
Smooth, great buttery and vanilla flavor
Anthony,
Very spicy
Shannon,
Sweet and spicy, but not much else. Maybe walnuts and honey? Smooth, though.
Roy,
Smooth start with a spicy finish. Really wasn’t expecting that much bite, but I liked it
Jonathan,
Smells like paint thinner but has a delicious light body.
Scott,
Not very smooth and has a rough spicy flavor that just lingers after. Keep trying new recipes Bender’s this ones not for me
Jennifer,
Classic rye but nothing special. Very little nose, almost undetectable.
Brad,
Very good. You get apple in the nose. Apple and char on the palate. Short finish.
Stephen,
All I really tasted was spice and vanilla. Was my least favorite of the 3 samples in the 2nd Generation Rye sampler.
Sean,
Wow! Absolutely delicious. Undeniable caramel brûlée flavors. This is a new Flaviorite!
Joshua,
Definitely perfect for an old fashioned or manhattan. I would most likely enjoy it neat for desert after a meal.
Robert,
A little spicy. Quite sweet. Would balance with some bitters in an OF.
Amy,
LOVED this. Almost like a hot buttered rum — dessert-like for sure. Smooth and warm.
Scott,
Close but not cigar! The nose made me think I was about to sample a liqueur or something super sweet. As pleasant and the dominate notes are the finish ruins it for me. It's just too subtle. The sweetness has nothing to compliment it. Needs more character.
Andy,
Light but flavorful!
Shannon,
Very subtle and smooth. Not a lot of character.
Kelly,
Fruity, smooth late heat
Aaron,
Smooth and slightly sweet
Peyton,
Beautiful Creamy Vanilla Nose!! Vanilla Creamy Body. With Rye and Cinnamon Lingering at the end. This one is the best of the Tasting Set!!
Lynn,
Was very pleasant beginng, with a mild after taste of oak. Very drinkable
