Character Goatson
A true craft farm-to-bottle Bourbon where the distiller also grows all the grain.

Far North Spirits was conceived by Michael Swanson and Cheri Reese upon returning home to pursue a simpler life. When "home" is the Red River Valley and a farm that is in its 4th generation of Swansons, producing quality rye and heirloom corn, "a simpler life" can only mean one thing ― distilling some proper Spirits. At the northernmost distillery in the US, we might add. Surrounded by super-fertile soil, nestled in a former wheat field just 25 miles from the Canadian border, they produce craft Gin, Rum, Vodka, and Whiskey ― all using grains they grow themselves.

Their focus is on using different grain varieties in order to produce unique and distinct Spirits. Beside the 4 Rye Whiskeys they released under the Roknar banner, there's the Bødalen Bourbon Whiskey as well. The single-estate Bourbon is crafted with grains grown by the distiller himself: It's 60% heirloom corn, 30% Hazlet winter rye, and 10% malted barley. The juice then spends 18 months in Minnesota-made oak barrels before being bottled at 90 proof and numbered by hand. Wondering about the name? It comes from a picturesque Norwegian valley with a beautiful glacier.

About the Flavor Spiral
What does Bødalen Bourbon Whiskey taste like?

The Flavor Spiral™ shows the most common flavors that you'll taste in Bødalen Bourbon Whiskey and gives you a chance to have a taste of it before actually tasting it.

We invented Flavor Spiral™ here at Flaviar to get all your senses involved in tasting drinks and, frankly, because we think that classic tasting notes are boring.

Straight Bourbon must be matured for at least 2 years. If a bottle has no age statement, it’s at least 4 years old.
Bourbon Is a ''new barrel Spirit'': One of the legal requirements for Bourbon is that it only be aged in brand new oak charred barrels.
Bourbons have very prominent notes of vanilla, as American White Oak is naturally high in vanillins.
Bourbon matures quicker than Scotch due to higher temperatures in American warehouses.
Whisky or Whiskey? The spelling differs geographically. In Scotland, Japan, and some other parts of the world, distilleries usually spell it Whisky; in Ireland and the USA, they spell it Whiskey.
Bourbon rules refer to manufacturing methods rather than location. Bourbon must be matured in new and charred American white oak casks for at least 2 years. If the bottle has no age statement, the Bourbon is at least 4 years old. No coloring or flavoring of any type is allowed, and the mash bill must contain at least 51% corn.
