Super middle of the road. No sweetness, no vanilla, no spice or oak, and even at this higher proof there is no "burn" on the pallet and nothing lingers. Nothing stands out. Nothing about this makes you want to come back for more. It might be a great way to introduce bourbon to people who have only ever been beer drinkers, but if you are looking for an exciting whiskey, this isn't it. It like a mediocre chain restaurant. It isn't going to be the best you have ever had, but it isn't going to be the worst either. Pretty forgettable.

Chris,
Not bad. Traditional Bourbon with traditional notes. The issue I have is that there isn't much more. in this one. I really like the heat and little bite I get and the nice vanilla notes on the nose.

Mark
Mark,
Tasted this blind with Buffalo Trace and Elijah Craig Small Batch, and the 1792 was my favorite. They're all good daily sippers and none had a ton of personality, but I thought the 1792 had the best blend of sweet sugar and baking spice flavors, with some nice oak on the finish.

Paul
Paul,
My go to bourbon from now on. Very smooth as in, not spicy, easy on the pallet. I could sip on this all night. Some coffee notes, some dark Carmel notes as well. I’m in love with this bourbon.

Nadav

Nice bourbon, definitely at this price point. Dominant dry fruit and rye, I get hints of leather and caramel, a sweetness in the aftertaste.

I always try to keep some 1792 in the house, but it doesn't last long. Very smooth, very approachable. You don't see it everywhere so its a bit under the radar, but man is it good!

Excellent every day bourbon. Good flavor.

David
David,
I put this in the same class as Maker's Mark. It's solid if unspectacular. It's consistently similar between bottles, and works great as a mixer. I also enjoy it in my flask, however when I sit down at the end of the day for a dram to savor, I'll pick sometime a bit more interesting.

Colton
Colton,
Sweet caramel notes, spicy biscuit exhale

If I didn't know it was a bourbon, I'd have guessed rye. Solid flavor profile, very drinkable.

Very good bottle, nice & sweet delicious taste , might finish this bottle in one night if you are not careful. You gotta put a cap on it and hide the bottle or you will run out quick. The Flavor is addicting.

Jonathan
Jonathan,
Buttery hints of brown sugar with evolving flavors on the palate and has a warming clean finish. In 1876, John D. Willett — one of Kentucky's original bourbon aristocrats — transferred his interest in the Willett & Frenke Distillery to his son-in-laws, Benjamin Mattingly and Thomas Moore. Mattingly and Moore continued to operate the Willett & Frenke Distillery together until 1881, when Mattingly finally sold his stake in the company to a group of investors. Within a few years, Thomas Moore acquired complete control over the distillery and eponymously renamed it. Moore would continue to operate the distillery for another five decades, until he was ultimately forced to close his doors at the onset of Prohibition. After distillation, the bourbon is aged in new, American oak casks for a minimum of eight years in Warehouse Z on the distillery's estate in Bardstown, Kentucky. Warehouse Z is situated on the edge of a bluff and as a result, enjoys the intense heat and humidity that are ideal for maturing whiskey. "When it comes to barrel aging," says Ken Pierce, Barton 1792's master distiller, "it's just like real estate — location, location, location. That's why 1792 ages in Warehouse Z up there on the bluff." In addition, during the maturation process, Pierce samples each cask of bourbon as it rests to determine when the bourbon has reached its peak of maturity. "Quality in, quality out," says Pierce, who has over two decades of experience at the distillery. Once the bourbon has matured for a minimum of eight years, it is brought to proof with water drawn from the Tom Moore spring. The iron-free, Kentucky limestone water — the same water used by Moore over a century ago when crafting his own whiskey — adds a subtle touch of complexity and depth to the bourbon.

Very nice rye flavor in a bourbon. Dried cherries, rye bread, and a smooth spice to finish. 1792 is great for the price

Hillary

Spicey notes. Rough finish

Coy
Coy,
Great inexpensive sipper. Goes great in an old fashioned. The bread/custard flavors come out quite a bit when paired with walnut bitters.

Dan
Dan,
Really surprised by the quality of this bourbon for the price range. It was very smooth with very little bite. Made an excellent Old Fashioned.

Baker
Baker,
Fruity at first (banana/fig?) and enough rye to taste without overpowering. Little spice at the end and overall very nice finish. Excellent low cost bourbon that compares well with the higher dollar choices.

guest

Made an old fashioned with it! Great aroma! Not bitter. Not bad at all for the $24 price tag!

guest
guest,
Great bang for the buck ! This is my go to everyday drinker .

Brian
Brian,
Really interesting combination of dark fruit on the nose that gives way to rye and spiciness. The spicy bite really lingers on the finish. There are other soft sweet flavors mixed in there as well, making for a nicely complex bourbon.

Jim
Jim,
I like it as a reasonably priced day to day bourbon, I like others for special celebrations but for a quick cocktail at the end of the day it works great.

Chad
Chad,
Strong banana flavor that I personally can’t stand. It lingers throughout the experience. It’s not for me.

Jim,
Smooth, but might be a headache if more than a little

Dave

Tyler

Very nice, clean and friendly bourbon. Not terribly complex but a great bottle to always have on the shelf. Not super sweet, a little spice and oak, nicely balanced. Good bang for your buck whiskey.

michael
michael,
Everybody needs a smooth- great tasting Boubon that is affordable. At first sip you taste the sweetness and then the spice softly says hello! I like it after a hot day served over a single square of ice, and I don't wince when the bottle runs dry! Cheers!

Steve
Steve,
Smooth and nice finish. Great value for the price.

Alex
Alex,
Great for cocktails, old fashioned and in coke.

John
John,
This is very smooth for such a strong bourbon, in my opinion.

Paul
Paul,
Light honey color; medium legs on the thinner side; bright sweet smell; quick finish; slight lingering spice with notes of summer fruit - peach. Overall very nice. Good summer whiskey. Need to try on the rocks.

Charles
Charles,
Good value bourbon. Everyday drinker. Great price and availability.

Paige
Paige,
Fruit and spice are upfront on the nose, almost to the point of burning your eyes if you visit too long. Although hints of caramel, cinnamon-like bread notes are present, the spiciness takes over the whole palette and leaves a cleaner finish to be desired. I’ve found adding a few drops of water tame the spice down a bit to make it tolerable while sipping. Also, if you’ prefer a hotter Old Fashion, this is a great alternative.

Excellent Price Point and rivals other brands at twice the cost. Doesn't blow you away but a great economical go-to. And by no means is it bad. Great flavor and finish

Tim
Tim,
A good bourbon but nothing to write home about. In this price range I’d reach for Buffalo Trace first, but this is still a decent bottle and nothing to stick your nose up at. Cheers

Nick
Nick,
Currently I have the Full Proof bottle and you can't go wrong. Smooth taste. It's now a go to; after I went to Kentucky.

Tim
Tim,
Good price point and decent flavor. Seems like it is missing something in the middle. Maybe more body or spice needed.

Luis
Luis,
Smooth texture, easy taste. Close rival to Blanton’s.

Bret
Bret,
This is a very nice bourbon for the price. Nice sweet, vanilla, caramel start. Good finish, but kinda short. Not enough spice for me. This is a great price point bourbon.

Jamie
Jamie,
Great taste.

Sandy
Sandy,
This was a gift for my boss. He enjoyed it so much, that I ordered one for myself. Waiting for mine to arrive so I can enjoy it too.

Nathan
Nathan,
I would actually say 7.5. Sweet at first, a nice spicy tingle on top of the tongue. Very good value and easily drinkable. I wish I was able to pick up more smells and flavors but reading through reviews is helpful if you can’t figure it out.

Jodi
Jodi,
Wasn’t sure what to expect and found it to be a nice rye nose with pleasant smoothness on the back end.

Charlie
Charlie,
Sweet with a big hint of rye.

Maija
Maija,
Sweet, but the spicy notes are overpowering by the end. Would be better in a mixed drink than straight up.

Celestino
Celestino,
Well balanced and smooth.

Anthony
Anthony,
Nose: Leather, orange, vanilla, nuts, oak, burnt sugar. Nutmeg and cinnamon in the background. Palate: Powerful rye, with vanilla custard. Lots of spiciness. You can taste the oak, and then dark toffee, honey, pine resin and tobacco. Finish: Long finish, with finish of caramel, barrel char and spicy notes that fade slowly.

Leslie
Leslie,
Balance and smooth, great for the price

K
K,
Great bourbon. Can’t beat the price.

Mark
Mark,
Not true in every case, however here you get what you pay for. Hits you up front and then is sweet like maple syrup. The finish isn't hot but lingers in a good way. Good budget whiskey. It may not be what you start with but makes for a good night cap unless you have a bold and high abv whisky on reserve.

Chris
Chris,
This 1792 small batch has a smoothness that is uncharacteristic of such an affordable bourbon. Highly recommend.

Jeff
Jeff,
A bunch of different flavors mashed together / bite on the front end. A much smoother simpler finish.

guest
guest,
Very sweet on the nose with a small hint of brown sugar. Sweet to spicy to maple syrup flavor, but sweet dominates. Slight charing on the finish but quite pleasant and mellow. Adding water mellows the sweetness and adds a hint of coffee on the nose. Balanced and Blends the flavors together very nicely. Finish is extremely smooth. Would like to try on the Rocks. 8/10 neat 9/10 with water

Mikel
Mikel,
A bit strong on the fruity/acidic flavors at first but with a dash of sugar water the flavor becomes much more appealing. Would recommend to a Brandy drinker just getting started with whiskey.

Matthew
Matthew,
Excellent bourbon, really an 8.5. Smooth and delicious.

Jeff
Jeff,
Very nice and good value. Complex - not sweet style more rye and spice Makes a great Manhattan or old fashion

James
James,
I really like the rich flavors and the finishing taste. Quickly becoming one of my favorite bourbons!
