A seriously micro blend of Kentucky Whiskeys.

Why is the extra letter “L" in Barrell Craft Spirits? Company founder — Joe Beatrice — just ain’t saying. But he will tell you all day long about his passion for the work that they do to preserve unique orphan casks of American Whiskey.

Founded in 2014, Barrell Craft Spirits scoops up extra casks of premium Bourbon and Rye and bottles ‘em up at full strength. Each batch is completely different. Sometimes the coolest casks on the market are Tennessee-style Whiskeys, sometimes they’re Kentucky Bourbon. The good stuff could be straight, or it could be a finished wood. The point is that they find the best odd lots and “left-overs” that would more likely be tossed into a generic blend and sell it to us in all of their glory.

Barrell Whiskey Private Release CH01 Whiskey is part of a special collection from BCS that offers seriously micro blends where every release is unique. Sure, the recipes can be recreated but every component is carefully curated over several months, so the result would never be the same. Barrell Whiskey Private Release CH01 Whiskey is a blend of Kentucky Whiskeys, most of it being 18YO Kentucky Whiskey. The fine blend is then finished in a Jamaican Rum Cask to add a special touch to the juice.

Bourbon must be made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn.
Bourbon only needs to be placed in a new oak container for a few seconds to be called Bourbon. Fresh from the still and unaged Bourbon is called a White Dog. Recently, many of the larger distillers have started packaging this harsh, clear grain spirit for sale.

Pinhook’s high-proof Bourbon won Gold at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, while the Straight Rye Whiskey won Double Gold the following year. In 2021, their Bourbon War Vertical Series 5 Year and the 2021 Flagship Bourbon won a Gold Medal each, with a Double Gold going to their Tiz Rye Time Vertical Series 5 Year. Pinhook is evidently doing something right!

Sure, Kentucky gets all the press when it comes to Bourbon. And with good reason—nearly 95% of it is produced there. But Bourbon can be made anywhere as long as it's within the United States. Just ask states with budding distilleries like Illinois and New York.
"Remember that iconic poster from World War II showing Rosie the Riveter as a patriotic American woman doing her part for the war effort? Well, hundreds of businesses did their part too, and the Bourbon distillers stepped right up with ‘em.

Distilleries all over Kentucky and Tennessee were re-tooled to distill fuel alcohol and ferment penicillin cultures to treat wounded soldiers."
At any given time, there are more barrels of Bourbon in Kentucky than there are people. The population of the Bluegrass State is about 4.4 million. Today there are more than 5 million barrels of Bourbon sitting in the rick-houses of that Old Kentucky Home. That’s nearly 300 bottles of Bourbon per person, or about 60 gallons each.
