Linda,
What a great whiskey ! Very smooth and flavorable. 1st bottle i received and man was it a good 1 !!!!
Aaron,
Wow! Fantastic nose and so smooth. Smells of carmel, some oak, and tobacco. This one is a favorite for sure after my first dram. I am planning on another purchase as this one will go fast! One of the best whiskies I have ever tasted.
Roger,
Bourbon nose, but scotch taste. Sweet with hint of smoke
Craig,
I get the hint of butterscotch with a strong but respectful finish.
Rod,
Don't usually like Bourbon Malts, but being that this is cask strength it masks the sweet with alcohol and is pleasantly drinkable.
Jason,
Very strong, but once you get past that it has a very good flavor. Advise to let your ice cubes melt a bit before sipping this must-try spirit.
Luis,
This has to be the worst bottle of whiskey I have ever tried. Total waste of a Flaviar shipment!!!
Josh,
Spicy and sweet with strong barrel notes. Good flavor but strong alcohol taste/aftertaste. Strong, but good mixed with cola/dr. Pepper
Robert,
Drinkable, but not a whisky to buy again, strong alcohol/moonshine undertones
Michael,
No, nothing good about this bottle. Mixing it almost 1:1 with Gran Gala just to make it palatable. Not good, mind you, just drinkable. This bottle has a word fishy nose, and is almost salty on the tip of the tongue. The real crime though is the acrid taste on the back of the tongue and in the finish. Just nasty. Nothing smokey, this is like chewing on burned garlic. Not only would I not order it again, I would take a pass if someone offered me a glass for free.
Duane,
Blend of single malts from different states was better than expected. Cask strength so not for newbie. Added about a teaspoon of water and loved the flavor. Since they source their whiskey everything they sell is limited. Believe they are up to version 3 on their bourbon and version 2 on the rum.
Duane,
Had to tame this blend a bit with some water. Let it sit a bit as well. Overall enjoyed it but wouldn't put in my top ten.
Jeff,
Good solid whiskey
Steven,
Very much like a blended scotch still a bit young in my opinion needs to mature and smooth out a bit more. Lots of peat and smoke but still a bit harsh on the back end.
Andy,
Tastes much more like a scotch than bourbon. Don’t think the flavor is terrible for a scotch (not sure though as I don’t care mutch for scotch). Just disappointed in the taste
Christopher,
I'm a scotch and Irish whiskey guy, and I generally dislike bourbon, and this really feels like bourbon to me. And while I suppose bourbon folks might enjoy it, I did not. But I paid for it, so I will slowly finish the bottle, albeit quite watered down.
Andy,
😂 I thought just the opposite. I am a bourbon drinker and it tasted like scotch to me. Tastes a little peety
Salvatore,
From aroma to flavor, this whiskey is buttery smooth.
Brian,
This is a unique blend. This rye drinks more like a scotch then a rye. This rye is really an enigma. It begins very spicy and hot like it’s a cheap rye but then mellows out. After a few more sips I realized that this is a quality rye however, the makers must age this rye or a blend of this rye must be aged with peppers or some type of spice. If anyone can confirm that would be great. My first experience with this rye was neat and automatically you can experience a great heat or spicy flavor then it becomes smooth. It’s almost like this is the equivalent of a sour patch kid. The best way to experience this rye is either on the rocks or shaken to control the heat. If enjoyed either way you can instantly taste the smooth flavors of caramel, citrus and vanilla.
This rye can be easily trashed like it has been in reviews. This rye takes an elevated pallet to understand how to really consume this rye. If you enjoy spice (heat) drink this neat of not drink this over ice or shaken.
Ted,
The flavor of vanilla and caramel match the thick, velvety mouth feel of this whiskey. It has a good beat and you can dance to it.
Ronald,
Great flavor, not very smooth though.
Greg,
It's light, sweet and spicy!!! It packs a punch. It's good...but i will stick to my bourbons!!
Millard,
Harsh and thoroughly unenjoyable. It now resides in my wife's pantry to be used for cooking purposes.
Steve,
The smell is almost nutty and spicy. The sip is smooth at first but when you swish it around in your mouth your tongue is tingly and hot. The swallow is smooth and pleasing with a mild linger with a great after taste.
Dennis,
48.5% ABV! Be sure to dilute a bit with water or ice to mellow it. Quite nice if you do, nice toffe, rye flavours, some interesting notes in the back. By itself it's q bit overpowering, more than other barrel proof whiskeys I've tried.
Mark,
The first sip was an assault on my nose, but settled down a bit after. Overall flavor was nice, but as others mentioned it was harsh...and strong. 117 proof.
Raleigh,
Disliked every aspect of this... I would not recommend this to anyone. Harsh from start to finish.
Mitch,
Soft and harsh at the same time for good shared bite and smoothness
Troy,
Neat this is a bit much and the alcohol overpowers every other aspect. On the rocks it mellows significantly and is more enjoyable but still better left to a cocktail.
Michelle,
Really liked this whisky! Very much like a highland scotch aged in a sherry casket
Norma,
I loved it! The smell of honey and the tast of toffee/butterscotch did it for me.
Vincent,
Not for me. Very strong alcohol taste. Not smooth. Tastes like a cheap college bottom shelf bourbon.
Danny,
Flavor was great, however the potency of the alcohol percentage drowned out the enjoyability
Mike,
Delicious stuff
Lauren,
Very unique and a lot of fun to drink. I Recommend it and I recommend it at $90
Neil,
Usually my ratings are close to the Flaviar average, but I don’t get the reviews on this whiskey. This is not good whiskey for $25, much less for $85. After my Disappointing initial dram, I left it on the shelf for a couple of weeks and tried it again. I couldn’t finish the second glass. Tossed the bottle after that.
Evan,
I'm right behind you. It's not an enjoyable bottle for the price. It's only worth half the price. I'd rather spend $50 on better bourbon or scotch
Praveen,
Cask strength, strong legs, pear scents up top with subtle orange zest below, initial taste strong with toffee and vanilla give way quickly to an astringent taste but a lingering sweet aftertaste. Dilute this 1-2 drops to cut the sting and open this up to other complex flavors.
Mark,
Enjoyed the “maple” while not loosing its cask strength power
Rocco,
Really quite good!
Sukhjeet,
Unique and big ABV
Brian,
A pleasant American whiskey. The Nose - Grain/wheat and citrus; The Palate - Pipe tobacco, toffee - adding water softens the mouth feel and increases the sweetness; The Finish - Long and spicy. I enjoy the Barrell Bourbons more, but this blend is worth a taste.
Sean,
I enjoyed this with a touch of water and nice pipe. The tabacco flavor is very strong, but nice on a cold night.
Michael,
I liked it initially, then I took the bottle with me on a weekend getaway. After a couple of days of this being my only source of alcohol it got very dull. The only way I'll be able to finish the bottle is by using it in cocktails.
ALEXANDER,
I found this a bit harsh to try and get down. Disappointing for a $90 bottle.
James,
Definitely a different taste. Very strong alcohol level. I like it better neat.
Richard,
Strong bite. Might be better if watered down a bit. Not my cup of tea
Jeff,
Sharp bite. Confusing flavors.
Andy,
My second bottle into my exploration of American Single Malt and I found it very enjoyable. On the nose I found caramel, toffee, and tobacco. It starts hot (which I prefer) with a nice sweetness, warm bread, a little wood char, and finishes long with touch of orange zest. A few drops of water and the toffee explodes on the nose with the addition of cocoa nibs and the palate remains largely the same. I will be recommending this to my friends that prefer Speyside Scotch and/or bourbon. There are better Scotches at this price, but I like to think America will be at that level in my lifetime.
Steve,
Good flavor. Little heavy on the after taste
Becky,
Nice nose but way too harsh from start to finish for my palate. The 117 proof is more heat and burn than I'm looking for in a zipper. Disappointed.
Becky,
Sipper! Damn autocorrect.
Jared,
Fantastically smooth.
Jon,
Flavor is very unique for an American whiskey, the age of the whiskey really stands out, would have been great after about 7-10yrs.
Joseph,
A little harsh for my taste and I do generally enjoy high proof whiskeys
SAMUEL,
Nose very pleasant but after the alcohol was too strong for my palate, next time will try with few drops of water or on ice.
Steven,
absolutely amazing -- with an great proof!
to me the nose has got honey, citrus, licorice, white grape all competing for dominance,
I tasted butterscotch, toffee, nutmeg, plums, and spices with a bit of chocolate
finish is back to that licorice hit and lingering spice.
Neil,
Strong initial hit that mellows slightly on finish. I’ll follow some other reviewers suggestions and put a few drops of water in it for the next round.
Thomas,
A very nice blend, enjoyed to sip or this whiskey very much
Jason,
A good amount of spice and anise with sine butterscotch and citrus.
Michael,
Very well made. Enjoyed it very much
Alex,
This whisky wasn’t something I’d heard of before but was glad I tried it. You wouldn’t guess this is the upper half of 120 proof. The toffee & butterscotch gives a mild sweetness on the nose, but the tobacco grounds it with some earthy notes & the spice on the finish reminds you you’re drinking a potent & excellent whisky.
Sean,
Sweet and caramel on the nose. Orange flavor and a little floral. Very smooth for its ABV and overall was great on ice.
Derek,
I agree with Brock R’s review virtually word-for-word. Go with two drops of water to tame the burn and bring out more of the vanilla / toffee flavor. Very solid.
Li,
Tasted great in old fashioneds...
Shaun,
Not my flavor profile. The anise/licorice and tobacco are what really stand out. Since it is high ABV, the heat and anise are hard to distinguish so at first it drinks hotter than it really is after you de-couple the two. Cool concept though with the single malts
Kelly,
Good flavor. A lot of burn.
Neil,
Love this one!
Peter,
Nice. Has a little bit but clean. Enjoyed on ice
Kiana,
Love it
Scott,
Enjoyable. Vanilla. Orange zest. Quite sweet without overpowering.
Brock,
This is a bourbon with characteristics of a highland scotch. Though the nose is sweet, the palate is much more savory and malty. The finish brings you back to the sweetness and reminds you this is, in fact, an American whisky. Vanilla, butterscotch and toffee definitely at the finish. A very nice blend. I imagine it is favoring more rye judging by the savory and spicy palate.
Add a little water and you will open up the sweetness even more at the nose. I detect some maple syrup and vanilla with caramel popcorn. I found the addition of water (2-3 drops in a 1.5 oz) did little to the palate and finish other than opening up the vanilla a bit more. It definitely tames the burn. Adding water doesn’t hurt with this whisky.
Anthony,
Nose provided a nice subtle caramel but initial hit on the palate was harsher then I would have liked. The alcohol comes through too strong and leaves a lingering watery burn in the finish.
