Barrel Craft Spirits is responsible for Barrell Bourbon. Note the extra letter “L” in the product name? Why is it there? No one knows and so far company founder — Joe Beatrice — just ain’t saying. But he will tell you all day long about his passion for the work that they do to preserve unique orphan casks of American Whiskey. Founded in 2014, Barrell Bourbon scoops up extra casks of premium Bourbon and bottles ‘em up at full strength. Each batch is completely different. Sometimes the coolest cask on the market is a Tennessee style Whiskey, sometimes it’s Kentucky style. The good stuff could be straight, or it could be a finished wood. The point is that they find the best odd lots and “left-overs” that would more likely be tossed into a blend and sell it to us in all of its pure single-cask Bourbon glory.
The Beast Master blog and podcast arranged to have the good folks at Barrell Bourbon select a special cask just for them. This is the result of that effort. They won’t tell you the name of the distillery, but Barrel Bourbon Beast Master Edition is a single cask of Tennessee Whiskey aged for 9.5 years. But be ready… they bottle at nearly full cask strength — a whopping 127.5% Proof / 63.75% ABV. All that time and strength delivers a surprisingly smooth drinking experience.
