Release #3 of the Discovery Series Bourbon is the best yet with a deeply warm and rewarding flavor profile.

Bardstown Bourbon Company is an amazing thing to behold. It is a remarkable facility recently expanded to produce six million proof gallons of Spirit per year — making it one of the largest distilleries in the world. But it is also a gleaming, modern building with sharp edges, having some of the most advanced technology for great Whisky-making.

Founded in 2013 with production hitting full stride in 2015, they started by filling their rickhouses with sourced Spirits to support their construction. With massive amounts of product pre-sold out into the future, they are the central production for dozens of famous brands — including Jefferson’s, High West, James E. Pepper, and many more. But they carve out a selection to release under their own brand as well.

Bardstown Bourbon "Discovery Series" #3 is the third release in the Discovery Series. It’s a blend of three exceptional Bourbons — 45% thirteen year-old Indiana (likely MGP), 32% thirteen year-old Kentucky, and 23% ten year-old Kentucky. All three are about 75% corn and have rye in the mash bill to one degree or another. And it’s bottled at 55% ABV. So, you know that there will be plenty of sweet and heat. But the stats are not enough. To understand how great this blended Bourbon is you’ve got to get a bottle for yourself.

Smartass Corner:
Bardstown Bourbon currently organizes their current releases into three categories. The Discovery series features sourced "discovered" Spirit. The "Fusion" series features in-house Spirit "fused" with sourced Spirit. The forthcoming "Origin" series will be all in-house production.

James
James,
Wonderful! 9.5 stars! Lots of maple and cinnamon with a hint of orange spice on a long oak finish. One of the best I've had and worth the $$$

Richard
Richard,
Bourbon of the year...maybe bourbon of the decade. So much wonderful going on here: sweet, spicy with vanilla and a hint of oak. Finish lasts for days. Can’t rate to highly enough, it is 100% worth the cost.

Jeremy
Jeremy,
I absolutely loved this bourbon!!! It is a must try. I heard the Discover Series 4 is even better. This bourbon is dark and rich. The Oak is perfect with some gentle balanced chocolate notes. Definitely some citrus notes with maybe a little bit of port wine. Overall it is fairly complex for bourbon.

Richard
Richard,
Bardstown is quickly becoming my favorite distillery. This is even better than Discovery Series #2. So much going on here, vanilla sweet hits first but baking spices follow close behind. The oak finish lingers for days. I haven't had too many better bourbons than this.

Niket
Niket,
Amazing and complex! Never thought blending could result in such a fine art. I would say this is easily on the same level as the hard to find stuff such as BTAC if not better....Best part is that this is findable unlike the BTAC and Pappy. Give this a shot if you are skeptical in spending the money. You will not be disappointed.

Matt
Matt,
Another easy 10/10 from Bardstown. Don't let the fact that most of their bourbons are sourced and blended dissuade you - this is expert craftsmanship. This bourbon is high proof and somehow still incredibly smooth. The nose is rich with oak, chocolate and orange. The palate is smooth with baking spices, light citrus and more bold barrel flavors. Bardstown never ceases to deliver.

Scott
Scott,
Love it. It almost tastes like its finished in a wine barrel. I love the sweetness, the cherries, almost like a shortbread cookie.

Lee
Lee,
Our group did an awesome tasting event with Samantha Montgomery from Bardstown Bourbon. I loved learning about how Bardstown selects these blends, which is basically a competition to have all of their employees come up with blends and vote for the best one. Every Bardstown product we tasted was delicious, but this was one of my favorites.
