This could be our favorite Bourbon blend of the year with nearly decadent flavors and intoxicating aromas.
Bardstown Bourbon Company is an amazing thing to behold. It is a remarkable facility recently expanded to produce six million proof gallons of Spirit per year — making it one of the largest distilleries in the world. But it is also a gleaming, modern building with sharp edges, having some of the most advanced technology for great Whisky-making.
Founded in 2013 with production hitting full stride in 2015, they started by filling their rickhouses with sourced Spirits to support their construction. With massive amounts of product sold out into the future, they are the central production for dozens of famous brands — including Jefferson’s, High West, James E. Pepper, and many more. But they carve out a selection to release under their own brand as well.
Bardstown launched the Discovery Series a few years ago to highlight neighboring sourced Spirits. To say that the release was a success understates things a bit — it sold out very quickly. Bardstown Bourbon "Discovery Series" #2 was release in Q4 of 2019 and most experts think it is even better. It ’s comprised of Kentucky Bourbons — 44% ten year-old (75% corn, 13% rye, & 12% malted barley), 39% twelve year-old (74% corn, 18% rye, & 8% malted barley), and 17% fourteen year-old (78% corn, 10% rye, & 12% malted barley). And this wonderful blend is bottled at a cask strength of 60.6% ABV for a delightful dramming experience, and a single ice cube really opens it up.
Smartass Corner:
Bardstown Bourbon currently organizes their current releases into three categories. The "Discovery Series" features sourced "discovered" Spirit. The “Fusion” series features in-house Spirit "fused" with sourced Spirit. The forthcoming "Origin" series will be all in-house production.
