You’ll smell the peat, but it doesn’t bite you. Rather, it mingles gently with the orange zest, butterscotch, and apple notes you expect in a Balvenie Single Malt

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavors are strong and complex — with lemon, oranges, vanilla, and toffee making their presence known.

Pretty good, prefer other Balvenie over this one.

Richard
Richard,
Smooth with a nice smokiness with peat flavor and a sweetness residue I believe form the barley

Brett
Brett,
It's like drinking a campfire. Definitely lives up to its name and explodes of peat. I would rate it higher if I were a peat-lover, but I prefer more of a sweet scotch. That said, I enjoyed every dram and am glad I went on this smokey journey.

Gordon
Gordon,
Port wood is a little sweet

Andrew
Andrew,
This is probably a case of a novice buying the wrong bottle. Too strong on the peat. I didn't think that was possible, but here we are. I can't complain about anything else, and it's probably a great scotch for those who like peat-forward scotches.

Bryan
Bryan,
Very smooth with light hints of smoke, and iodine. Hints of sweetness and the finish is very light.

Craig
Craig,
I was excited to try this. I have never tried a peaty scotch. I love the Carribean cask and double wood but the week of peat was not as good as I expected. It's smooth and has good flavor on the front but on the back side it tastes like burnt electrical wires. So sip after sip was just that. Wish I would have just ordered what I know I like.

Amy
Amy,
I enjoy Balvenie products, this was a little too sweet for me and not enough smoke.

Camden
Camden,
Very smooth. The smoke is deep and dark in flavor but light and tingly on the palate. Already want another bottle.

Todd
Todd,
Some smoke and peat aroma, with some spice as well. Certainly has more character than The Balvenie Double Wood 12 year. Taste wise, this is pretty good. You do get the spice, smoke, and peat. Not as earthy as usual peaty Scotches, but it's there. A splash of water doesn't change things much, probably not needed for this one. Overall enjoyable.

Jeffrey
Jeffrey,
Rather than describing all the elements allow me just to testify that they work...really really well.

Chris
Chris,
This is my fist whisky as I just started drinking whisky. I looked at $80-$100 bottles. I looked up the flavor profile on each. I figured I would look for sweet. This one scored higher on the sweet scale. I’m on my 5th glass now (not in the same night!!) I have found if I let the ice melt for a bit, the bite disappears. I’m can’t do neat yet. I certainly taste the vanilla and maybe a little citrus now. I enjoy it more and more every time I have some. Can’t wait for my first Irish sample box to arrive.

A nice balance of sweetness and smoke. A great intertwining on the nose and palate. Very tasty.
