Another winning Single Malt from The Balvenie that turns double-wood aging on its head.

The Balvenie Distillery is just up the road from Glenfiddich on the north side of Dufftown — smack dab in the middle of Speyside. And a young William Grant worked at the nearby Mortlach Distillery for more than twenty years. And when he was ready to start out on his own, he bought an empty field and laid the foundation stone for The Balvenie in 1886.

Still owned by William Grand & Sons, The Balvenie has long been a favorite of Speyside Whisky lovers. It’s famous for producing Single Malts in the classic styles of the region — light, fruit-forward, sweet, and clean without a trace of peat smoke.

The Balvenie The Sweet Toast of American Oak is the brainchild of Apprentice Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie. In order to craft a sweeter, fruit-forward Balvenie, she turned their double-wood aging process on its head — taking Balvenie’s classic Single Malt wonder aged twelve years in ex-Bourbon barrels and finishing it in toasted VIRGIN white-oak casks from Kentucky. In a word, the result is luscious … in two words delicate and sweet. Mission accomplished.

Scotch Whisky is almost never aged in new barrels. Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey casks are usually used for maturation, while many times ageing process and flavor finishing is concluded in various wine casks, such as sherry or port.

Ratings & Reviews
Wow! This is one of the most complex Scotches I’ve tasted. Also one of the most unique. You definitely taste the spiciness - I thought maybe cloves or cinnamon at first (but flavor profile says gingerbread). I’ll buy this again!
Delicious Scotch! Great value for the price.
When they say "Gentle waves of oak vanilla....They ain't lying on the finish! Similar to the Caribbean Cask w/o the Rum taste!
Love it. Very smooth. Sweet and delicious up front with a lingering delicate oak finish. Great mouth feel that coats your palate. Every glass is a treat.
Very tasty! Don’t know all the official language of an official reviewer but it was.l very enjoyable with my cigar on the porch of my saloon!
Good, but not the same oomph as the rest of the line
Walnuts and honey graham crackers, not a very long finish. I was hoping for more from this one. Still very drinkable, but I’ll stick with Monkey Shoulder for the price or the 21yr if I want something to savor. I should have waited longer to rate it...found myself enjoying it much more the 2nd and 3rd time around...gets better the more I go back to it

Just a classic smooth delicious scotch
Wow, what an enjoyable scotch! Complex beginning to end with just a hint of spice/heat... each time I go back I am discovering something new. Likely to become a staple in my home bar.
Great Whisky!!
