Member Reviews and Ratings of Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old
Great go to anytime
Solid. Smokey smooth Scotch with hints of vanilla And honey. Close to a Bourbon...but Scotch.
Solid, smooth and flavorful
Smooth. Sweet. Simple. Not a lot going on but easy to drink. Definitely would not refuse it if it was served to me, but I don’t think I will be buying another bottle.
Very solid entry level scotch. Bourbon drinkers will like this because of the sweet flavor profile. Lately I’ve been gravitating towards more peaty drams but I’ll pull this out occasionally for a nice change of pace.
Sorry...meant to give this 8 stars, not 7!
A good dram. Well-balanced.
Easy drinker. Almost sweet tasting. Not my favorite, but good. I prefer the Bunnahavin 12 or Aberlour 12.
Smooth and easy to drink Speyside Scotch. More peaty than a Highland but still accessible to most whiskey drinkers. The sherry cask really shines through and the bourbon “oakiness” is more in the undertones. The flavors are more complex than bold.
Love this Scotch!
The best sherry cask scotch. Smooth with a sweet finish
It’s a fantastic entry level everyday whisky when you want to be happy. Great fruity and sweet creamy scent, not too heavy, smooth easy drinking with lovely sweetness and some spiciest, which goes away instantly. What is left in the mouth is this great tasty honey jam bread that is just heavenly. Love of first sight!
One of the first scotches I tried. Fairly smooth not super flavorful though.
I’m not a huge scotch lover but am expanding my horizons. Not going to lie, I tried this because of one of my heroes, Anthony Bourdain and his YouTube series that featured this brand. I was not disappointed. I will check out more from this brand. I feel like I know them as the show featured guys from the distillery.
What got me into the world of scotch.
Nose: Fermented fruit, light cherry, vanilla, oak, red plum, honey
Palate: Light, fermented fruit, spice (chai tea), honey
Probably one of my favourite drams. Solid and reliable amd easily drinkable. Well recommended.
Smooth blend, like the DoubleWood
Amazing on the nose, however maybe a little bit of a disapointment on the palate comparatively. Great for a beginner, but if you have a large collection and are looking for something special this is maybe not it.
Very smooth- the notes of oak and sherry are a nice touch. I found the sweetness enjoyable. More seasoned scotch drinkers may find it excessive
My go to daily dram
Solid price, solid flavor, solid bite. Everything I like in an everyday drinking scotch makes this one of my favorite “go-tos”
Might just be my favorite!
My go-to Speyside whisky. When the bottle reaches one third, it is swiftly re-stocked in my bar.
An initial bite with a smooth finish. My initial take was not great...but....I actually really enjoy the finish.
Wonderful introduction to double aged/finished scotch. Makes for a smooth dram. Looking forward to comparing it to Macallan double varieties.
My favorite go-to scotch. Pleasant, easy drinking - not a ton of complexity, but it never fails to satisfy.
Great complex scotch. Great “bite” initially followed by many unique flavors like vanilla, wood, sherry.
A really great whisky if you're looking for something with the bite and oaky character of bourbon, but the general smoothness and flavor profile of Scotch. This is one I have to be in the mood for as it's sharper than most scotches and VERY wood heavy. Overall, a pleasant, deep, complex scotch that marries a variety of flavors (wood, vanilla, caramel, fruit, cereal) very nicely. It's gotten very expensive over the years, but this was once one of the best values in Scotch. Still very good for the price.
Fantastic “go-to” whiskey for the novice and experienced scotch drinker. Complex and has a lot going on for a 12 year old, and the price is right!
I’m very new to the world of whisky, but drank this one neat and its very sweet to me. I taste the sweet sherry and dried fruits, the lingering tastes afterward makes me think of syrup and honey. Never imagined whisky could actually be this sweet. Will definitely buy again.
Wonderful easygoing Scotch.
Reliable classic Speyside taste
Complex, smooth, and flavorful.
All time favorite
My first scotch, sherry cask
I can't drink enough of this whisky.
They DoubleWood blend adds the wonderful hint of a finishing wine at the end of a great meal.
All of this in a single glass.
Probably my favorite scotch whisky. Really great every day whisky. Also a good beginners whisky as it is sweet really smooth.
Really nice. Sweat with a little bite. Perfect with a splash of cold water
My current favorite
A great sharing scotch, good for introducing people.
Sweet with slight bite
Good... Some bite
My old time go too scotch whisky
A favorite. Smooth. I’m partial to have it with a little water over ice.
I have been drinking Dble wood for over 10 yrs and I have tried a lot of others and nothing for my taste comes close to Balvenie
Slightly sweet, not sickly. Smooth
Very smooth with a sweet vanilla note!!!
Nose: sherry and fruit
Taste: sweet, fruity, light pleasant finish with some wood spice
Very good, easy drinking. Smells of banana and caramel.
Really get the sherry cask
Every day drinking, crisp and honey notes. Little peat. Best and favorite 12 year by far.
Definitely love it, suttle caramel, slight fruity finish..easy finish!
This was the whisky that introduced me to the single malt world and have it very close to my heart. A very smooth with notes of sweetness whisky. Someone can only enjoy this one.
Not as sweet as others, creamy
a great bang for your buck especially if you enjoy citrus notes
Amazing start to finish
Very good for the cost
Balanced smooth easy to drink
Warm up front with a dried fruit finish. Mellows and is very smooth and sweet on ice.
Great value - sweet with a very good spice finish.
Great scotch for the price
Love it. Love the flavors, love the value. It's one of the first scotches I ever had and I keep going back for more.
Strong vanilla and sherry aroma, followed by oak and spice in the flavor and a long finish. It's rich, sweet, and strong - not actually my favorite flavor profile for a Scotch, but have to admit it's still quite nice.
My daily go to scotch.
Easy on the nose. Hints of cinnamon, vanilla, delicious.
This is the scotch to which I compare all other scotches. It’s not the best out there, but it’s an excellent baseline.
Daily go to 12 yo
It was my first Single Malt and I still appreciate it for the balanced smooth taste.
Sweet undertone with a smooth finish.
My favorite so far. I like a smooth, sweet whiskey. First scotch I’ve had that I liked.
I have only had it once, but I was delighted. It's not too sweet, but the flavors were intriguing. It's very smooth and worth revisiting
Very good entry level single malt. Good value. Great beginner's single malt.
I like this scotch. I have a bottle and will replace it when it's gone. Vanilla, honey, and oak are the main flavors I can detect. I can't really taste the sherry cask as this is usually a turn off for me.
Smooth first taste. Crisp finish, fine aftertaste. By far my favorite.
It's smooth... Doesn't bite until the finish
One of my favorites
Another great Balvenie. You can drink this easily. It not as good as the 15, but a great alternative.
Had a dram in Edinburgh and really liked this one. Smooth, not peaty. Very accessible. Reminds me of Basil Hayden.
Tasty and Smooth...prefer over the 15year
This is what got me started on appreciating better scotch. Nice and easy. Though the 17 year has kind of spoiled me.
My favorite day-to-day whisky
The Sherrie cask aging rescues this whiskey and imparts some richness to this otherwise young feeling and tasting dram. I would buy only under $50 US.
Really good whisky! Honey, sherry, slight smoke with a long rich finish make this a yummy drink
Just bought another bottle. I became more fond of the Islay whisky over the years, but I love this Doublewood every now and then.
Personally one of my favorite scotches
Sweet, smooth. A go to whisky
Always have a bottle of this on hand. My go to
This is the one Scotch I will buy over and over and over again.
My favorite easy drinking scotch.
Perfect for when I need something softer than my usual peat fix.
There is always a moment for a dram of this smooth honey soft golden liquor
