Balcones finishes their West Texas Single Malt in their own Rum casks for an exotic experience.

You just have to love the charming, independent, and rebellious spirit of Texas. Balcones Distilling is based in Waco — just about half way between Dallas and Austin. Texas is a big state, and they like everything big… big steaks, big trucks, big hats, and big flavors. Balcones is still a small distillery (thank goodness!), but it is filled with big ideas. They hand-make a range of Whiskies, Rums, and mysterious fiddly Spirits, all of which are unabashedly crafted with the big flavors they love. These Spirits are top notch, and they have the awards to prove it.

In hindsight, we all should have seen this one coming. The folks at Balcones are famous for thinking outside the box — like the Texas rebels that they are — starting with the blue corn used in their Bourbon to the fact that they have a few Single Malt offerings and even a Rum.

So it really shouldn’t surprise any of us that they put a few of those winners together to make Balcones Single Malt Rum Cask. It’s their West Texas Single Malt Spirits finished in their own Rum casks. It is the brainchild of Jared Himstedt, 2019’s master Distiller of the Year. And you will be happy to note that it’s bottled at an impressive 62% ABV, so get your tastebuds ready to rock.
