Member Reviews and Ratings of Balcones Brimstone Smoked Corn Whisky
It is a very polarizing whiskey, but I love it. Super toasted sugars, little bit of campfire smoke and sweet corn, it's completely different and I adore it.
Smokey in a very unique way
No difference in nose and taste. Doesn't taste as smoky as it tastes burnt. Tastes like burnt weeds instead of something deliciously smoked. Definitely not a sipping whiskey, this is much more for cocktails. Really didn't like it. I love smoke, I love peated whisky, I love all of it - this really just did not resonate at all with me.
This was a big no for me even though I’m a huge fan of Smokey whiskey. The nose and taste are the same. What you smell is what you taste. I didn’t get any of the notes that the other reviews pointed out so maybe it’s just me and this isn’t for me.
Very unique. Not great for sipping, even with a cigar. Fantastic in an Old Fashioned.
Rich flavors, with a pleasant after taste.
Great whiskey just wish it was sold locally
Tastes like slow smoked brisket. Who doesn’t love slow smoked brisket?! Drink this neat while sitting by a campfire or a backyard fire pit.
As good as advertised! It’s Smokey yet smooth. Another excellent one from Balcones and probably my favorite I’ve had so far.
As a lover of peated/smoky whiskey, I find that the smokiness on this spirit presents itself as a salt/brine note that plays second fiddle to the dominant brown sugar and molasses notes. The experience ends in a buttery finish that I find in most bourbons and corn whiskeys. Another wonderful selection from the Balcones lineup.
My absolute favorite. The smoke and scrub oak flavor reminds me of the wild sagebrush that dots the deserts of California. A superb spirit.
Aroma reminds me of a Texas BBQ smoke pit. Very smooth and long finish. Smoky in the beginning and in the end.
It is truly a full, smoky, woody, campfire of a whiskey. It is truly smoke in a bottle of whiskey. It is excellent with a cigar too.
This straight up tastes like BBQ. This is unlike any other whiskey I have ever tasted. Mesquite is an understatement. This is whiskey is SO full of flavor. Probably not everyone’s cup of tea but I LOVE this.
Not as smoky as I expected.
I really enjoy the deep flavor on all parts of my tongue. Great for sipping
CRAZY. It's such a bold, unique flavor. Can't quite figure out what to do with it beyond sipping when I'm in this kind of mood. Definitely a great one to have on hand to show other whiskey friends something out there.
Kinda smells like port. Flavour and aftertaste are delicious; swallowing is a little sharp when neat at 53%.
Used to be remarkably good. Since the drama, it's a pale shadow of itself.
This is one awesome Whisky! Have never tasted anything so Smokey, in a very good way and I was surprised at the taste of barbeque. All I can say is try it you will like it !
Too much smoke, harsh
Okay. Taste of smoked meat with a good after burn to it. The notes of this fine whiskey is dead on accurate. Texas BBQ and Everything With.
My favorite of Balcones' offerings. The smoke on this one is special. Makes for interesting cocktails especially when it replaces Scotch.
Little too much of the smoked oak for me on its own. A bit of a liquid smoke meets ethanol. It is perfect for the right cocktail though.
nose: barbeque, smoke, steak, some sugar sweetness
palate: slightly oily, smoke, more bbq
finish: peppery and sweet, bbq sauce, medium long finsih, how you dream your bbq food tastes
overall: definitely unique and one of a kind. not sure when you would ever have it but it is good
Delicious smoke! This is like drinking a campfire but in a good way.
Strong. It's like drinking a fire pit, but in a good way. Long lingering finish. Love it!
Like drinking a campfire....spectacular!!
I felt like I was tasting a Texas antique store that sat upwind of a BBQ restaurant.
