This Cognac is Norwegian by blood, French by birth.
Norwegian Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen followed love to France, and then decided to make Cognac there, founding Bache Gabrielsen Cognac in 1905.
Coming from a background in Spirits (his father was an executive at Holmestrands Samlag for Brændevinshandel, the largest Alcohol producer in Norway) Thomas brought the Natural Norwegian way, to French Cognac. Today, Maison Bache-Gabrielsen is one of the last remaining, family-run Cognac houses in France (the distillery is run by Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen, Thomas' great-grandson).
This dual citizen is a blend of eaux-de-vie produced sans the traditional permitted additives, and with Ugni Blanc grapes from the Fin Bois (60%) Grande Champagne (25%) and Petite Champagne (28%) crus, highly-prized for their chalky, rich soil. The resultant eau-de-vie is distilled twice through a traditional, alambic Charentais still.
Bache-Gabrielsen’s XO Natur & Eleganse range is a collabo with Cellar Master Jean-Philippe Bergier, which is a modern, light, fresh Cognac, with rich fruit notes that will have you transported you to rustic life in Cognac. This release is a white label meaning it is very limited edition, with all the bottles being numbered.
Elegant and complex, Natur & Eleganse is aged in Limousin oak casks for over 10 years. With layers of mellow fruit flavors complemented by light floral notes, a hint of vanilla, and a dry finish, this special Cognac won a Silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2010.
