Sweet on the nose, spiced on the tongue, and steeped in romance and adventure.

Yerevan Brandy Company has been producing "the pride of Armenia" Brandies since 1887. Armenia is actually ideally suited for grape growing since it has rich volcanic soils, sits at the same latitude as Italy and Spain, and has large bodies of water on both sides that moderate it’s continental climate. The grapes grow in a valley at the foot of the famous Mount Ararat — where Noah’s Ark is said to have landed after the Great Flood. And Yerevan has named their exceptional line of ArArAt Brandies after the great mountain. Pernod Ricard has owned a controlling interest in the company since 1998.

The legend of Akhtamar tells us that Princess Tamar lived on Akhtamar Island in Lake Tan. She fell in love with a commoner, and each night she would hold a lamp by the shore so that her lover could see the light and swim to meet her. Her father found out and smashed the lamp and her lover — without a lamp to navigate by — drowned. The princess and her lover were the "Romeo and Juliette" of Armenia. The master Brandy-makers of Yerevan built Ararat Akthamar 10 YO as a tribute to this romantic local legend. They even make special casks in their cooperage on-site to ensure a rich and spicy Spirit.

Armenian Brandy, also known as “Konyak” or “Kanyak,” has been a favorite among celebrities and powerful leaders throughout history, including Nero, Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, and mystery writer Agatha Christie.
Turns out, Brandy’s a pretty decent meteorologist. Back in the 1600s, the Spirit was used in thermometers before it was replaced by mercury.
After sneaking into the 1900 International Exhibition in Paris as a Cognac, Shustov & Son's Armenian Brandy won a blind tasting and the Grand Prix. They were then granted the right to legally call their product Cognac, even though it had not been produced in the Cognac region. Cheers to a proper hoodwinking!
