A rare Speyside Single Malt from a distilling gem in Speyside.

Alexander Murray is an independent bottler founded by Steve Lipp in 2004. The company is named after his great uncle who inspired Steve’s love of Malt Whisky, introducing him to the Spirit many years ago ― and also possessing a name with a much more Scottish ring to it. And although Alexander Murray operates out of California these days, they focus on Scottish Single Malts with an honest passion of seeking out the rare casks that make up their signature blends and special edition releases.

The Mannochmore Distillery is a monster distillery that hides behind its smaller sister — Glenlossie. It was built in 1971 by Johan Haig & Co. in the heart of Speyside to provide sweet Highland Single Malt for blending. They have huge storage capacity as well, and when those aging Spirits were tasted they were found to be unique and supremely fine-tasting. So, smarter heads prevailed and an allotment of Mannochmore Single Malt was made available for the first time in 1992. Alexander Murray Mannochmore 14 Year Old 2004 is a single cask series release of fourteen ex-Bourbon casks, each aged fourteen years. It is a vintage release worthy of your collection, but begging to be drammed at cask strength.

Smartass Corner:
Another hidden gem made at the Mannochmore Distillery is the famous "black" Single Malt aged in double-charred casks — Cú Dhub (previously named Loch Dhu). Cú Dhub is a variation on the Gaelic phase "black dog."

Single Malt Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland using a pot still distillation process at a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. It must be matured in oak casks in Scotland for at least three years (most single malts are matured longer).
