Top reviews for Alexander Murray Ardmore 9 Year Old 2008:

― This is a very good smoky whisky in the same vein of Laphroaig 10. This has a little more smoke and peat but without as much iodine/medicine. While the medicinal flavor is still there, its smoothed out by some leather and caramel. This is definitely a good whisky that is priced appropriately.

― My first impression was of tree sap and tobacco which was not enjoyable. However I took it slow on the second tasting as enjoyed it more. What I picked up as tree sap was spicy oak, with tobacco, smoke, and caramel also present. There is a fruitiness in there somewhere that perhaps citrus and vanilla. The earthiness is only on the nose for me, but perhaps is expressed as tobacco for me. Because of the tobacco like earthiness, I have a hard time enjoying this on a normal basis. However, I do think this would be a great camping whisky.

― Tobacco and leather flavors. Some body and sweetness. Very good.

Appearance / Color
Deep gold

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The nose is complex, smoky and, earthy. But it's also restrained, with fruity and floral notes.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
It's a campfire smoke extravaganza, but it's also much deeper than that. There's vanilla, caramel, and a pleasant fruitiness in the background. Some spicy oak is also in there.

Finish
Finishes long with the smoky and fruity notes lingering.
