Member Reviews and Ratings of Aberlour 16 Year Old
Petra,
Abelour, of the Spey. The rich brown of Alba, the delicate notes, you will be very pleased with the heft of the shapely bottle as well as the contents within!
J,
Smooth. But with lot more interesting tones than others.
Kris,
Nice sweet flavors once chilled.
Steven,
Amazingly
Smooth
Frederick,
This used to be a phenomenal whiskey (BETTER THAN THE 18 YO) but aberlour has lowered the Abv to the bare minimum of 40%. They did this with the 12 yo too and both have suffered tremendously. I used to buy 10-12 bottles of the 12 and 3-4 of the 16 per year. I loved this scotch. It was my go to dram of choice, but Aberlour has killed them- all to save a buck. If you like this whiskey, you should try a bottle at the hight abv.
Gary,
Great drink
Brennen,
:)
Sean,
Fantastic 16 year old , after exploring Bourbon in the summer , this is a nice crossover between Scotch and bourbon.
Michael,
Nice & smooth
Brian,
By far the best Scotch whisky I’ve ever had. I can’t quite place the major scent on the nose, but I get oak, apples, and cinnamon. As far as the flavor - I detected no smoke, and that made me happy (I don’t mind a little, but so many Scotches taste like campfire smoke). I did detect toffee, citrus, vanilla and oak. I consider this a splurge at this price, so the bottle will live on a pretty high shelf - and it deserves to be there.
Eric,
Very good bottle. Nice to have once in a while
Jo,
Bet Scotch ever! Incredibly smooth.
Andrew,
Very smooth. Nice balance.
Craig,
Close to perfection.
Mark,
Strong apple, cinnamon, and oak. Sweeter than many scotch whiskies I’ve previously had. Very smooth.
James,
Big time Apple and cinnamon and oak on the nose. Nice balance of sweetness and spice on the palate too. Really light mouthfeel. More of a short-medium finish which bumps it down a star for me
Chris,
Loved it!
Regardless of how long it took to finish the bottle from the first drop to the last was delicious.
Flavour notes were spot on would definitely buy again.
Steve,
Second time around, just because my initial experience did not reflect the ratings I was seeing. It must have been something with that bottle. This one was NOTICEABLY better.
Brad,
This is very smooth. Not a lot of bite on the end. Was a great pour over ice.
Gregory,
Great flavor with a smooth finish
Greg,
I was caught off guard by this one. It’s freaking awesome!
Orlando,
Sherry upfront with some fruity vanilla noted wish it was higher proof
Andrew,
Very smooth. Lacks a balance between the sweet flavors and the spice/oak notes. It’s too much on the “syrup” side
Steve,
I expected, as a 16 yo batch thsi woudl eb smoother; still a nice batch.
David,
Just get some. Best price at Heathrow Duty Free Shop, if they have it.
Aaron,
My first Aberlour - got plum, thick berry jam, and small doses of black cherry, butterscotch, and dark chocolate on the nose. Very nice. Taste got a little sherry, sugary pie crust, warming spices, and a faint hint of butter at the end. Great mouthfeel. Very nice dram, but just a touch too sweet for my taste currently. Only thing that held it to just a 7. Would love to hear suggestions for something similar to this but with a bit more smoke/oak to balance out that syrupy sweetness a bit more.
Michael,
Nice sherry flavor
Scott,
Smooth, and benefits from a half-hour in the glass before drinking. Good dark flavor.
Christopher,
very good scotch, very harmonic. but much too sweet for me.
Sharif,
Not impressed especially for that price tag. Naked Grouse tastes nearly identical and you can pick it up for $30. At 40% ABV it tastes very thin. I'm quite disappointed with this one.
Kurt,
Very nice. Not as good as A'bunadah, but good. It has real earthly flavors going on. Leather, tobacco, etc. I think it would probably open up with a good cigar.
Derrell,
aberlour has become my favorite scotch brand. the 16 year old doesn't disappoint.
Brendan,
Ok. While the sherry and oak flavors are present, a higher ABV would really help with the mouthfeel. I would avoid this expression and go with either the 12 (for price) or 18 year (for taste).
Kenneth,
One of my faves. I love the simplicity of the flavors, nice light smoke with a touch of spice. Not too sweet not too tart.
James,
Nose: Caramel, sherry, cognac, toffee, fresh fruit, raisins, fresh plum, cinnamon, mulled wine, pineapple, banana, tropical fruits, lychee, eastern spices
Taste: citrus, honey, anise, mouth watering.
Base note: burnt sugar, vanilla, cooked apples, Cinamon. This one clearly should sit in the glass
Lawrence,
Mild oak and apple with small spice at the back of the throat.
Richard,
Great dram. Mellow, smooth, but falvorful. A great daily drinker. One of my current favorites.
Eric,
I'm not a huge Aberlour fan overall, as they are a little too gentle for me. The 16 offers some nice complexity if you're willing to work a bit to find it.
Gabe,
Simply delicious
Ron,
What it lacks in nose it more than makes up for in taste. Just the right amount of smoke too!
Daniel,
Spice and peat. While I don't like peat, it doesn't overpower your taste buds.
Antti,
Aberlour 16 Year Old Double Cask Matured (40%) is a very good, complex, Single Malt Scotch Whisky that has an floral & aromatic birth; while a rich & spicy life leads to a warming death of medium length.
Bradley,
Very good smooth and flavorful. I buy this one often and have found very little that compares at the same price range.
Daniel,
Really like this one. Great depth of flavor, nothing overpowering. Some caramel, some spice, just a little pepper.
Ron,
Sweet but with hint of spice. Can not go wrong with Aberlour. I get more caramel then Flaviar says.
Mike,
Very smooth and ever so drinkable
guest,
16yr Aberlour is my go to favorite every time.
guest,
My go to dram
Roland,
This has become one of my favorites. Best on its own. I prefer it neat because water or soda only dilute and/or change the flavor profile.
Anthony,
The spice at the first is a bit abrasive
Brandon,
Solid and consistent. Spicy yet smooth. Easy choice for the evening glass.
Todd,
Sweet and spicy. One of my favorites.
Luke,
Great on it's own. Better with lemon ginger tea with a drop of honey. Earthy and delicious, one is able to sip it on ice for as long as they'd like. Definatly a favorite.
Roland,
So smooth I could drink too much if it. ;). Great flavors that ease my soul on a Friday evening sitting on the deck.
Seth,
My favorite
Heather,
Easy to sip...
scott,
Very nice, I have bought several bottles.......try it!!
Levi,
Solid Sherry aged single malt, silighlty sweet. Not overally impessive, but it isn't something I would ever say no to.
Will,
Spicy and sweet, strong Carmel...excellent!!
Christina,
Smooth crossover to scotch for a regular bourbon drinker. Bit of smoke, not overwhelming, sweet. Very nice.
Petter,
Too chemical for my taste.
Sandra,
A sweet treat! This was exactly what I wished for when looking for a very sherry whisky.
