Top reviews for 291 Colorado Barrel Proof Bourbon Whiskey:

— One of my all time faves. Super smooth. Great on its own to sip or to blend in a cocktail.

— 291 is one of the smoothest whiskeys I have had the joy of trying, and although the proof is high, its surprisingly easy to drink. Complex flavors that develop and deepen on your pallet, it truly is a one of a kind whiskey, and my personal favorite.

— Appearance: Color is copper, decent legs... Nose: Immediate aspen stave, with a mild sweetness. Rye spice, ethanol, and caramel round out the background... Palate: Aspen continues to influence, with a great Rye spice and Aspen intertwining dance. Strong front of the palate interferes slightly with later palate perception... Mouthfeel: Above average... Finish: Aspen and spice follow the Whiskey down... Overall: Aspen is definitely the dominant flavor, but the profile works, and the ethanol is tamed. Only downside is the price, but quality is definitely there.

Eric
Eric,
I could not get into the strange aftertaste imparted by the aspen. I tried it neat a couple of times and also in an old fashion. Will not buy again.

Timothy
Timothy,
I grew up in Colorado and will often ABC (Always Buy Colorado), but this is one of those bottles I would like to have never tried. Was excited to open it and have a little taste of home, first think I noticed was the first notes, and then the taste was initially not unpleasant. Had an odd taste I couldn’t put my finger on, then it came to me, finish is of cutting Aspen trees for firewood! The two should never mix, this is the worse whiskey I have ever drank, it is nasty... why would you put Aspen wood anywhere near whiskey, will never buy this again.

Susan
Susan,
I liked this whisky, which is strong but not as astringent as I expected. The aspen staves provide a mellow and delicate flavor addition!
